The neighboring Blue Ridge Mountains have numerous opportunities for both mountain biking and road biking with many local bike shops offering hourly or daily bike rentals.
McAfees Knob is a moderate difficulty hike between Roanoke and McDonald's Mill. The hike is roughly 8 miles and will take between 4 and 6 hours but will give you a beautiful view of the Catawba Valley and the Blue Ridge Mountains.
