Metonga Lake is a 2038 acre lake located in Forest County. Visitors have access to the lake from public boat landings. Fish include Panfish, Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Northern Pike and Walleye. There are also two beaches and boat landings on Lake Metonga that are open to the public. One on the north side and one on the south side of the lake. North side of the lake: Crandon Municipal Beach Here you can fish, swimming area, playground, and more. South side of the Lake: Veteran’s Memorial Park/Beach. Here you will find a fishing pier, picnic areas, volleyball courts, playground, and a swimming area. A wheelchair-accessible pier is located on East Lakeview Street on Lake Metonga, Crandon. Enjoy viewing 40 different species of trees from all over the state. It features a park with a deer pen (SE corner of the courthouse square), the historic Forest County Courthouse, and the Veteran’s Memorial.
Along the main street-- Branch Street-- Wabeno has preserved quite an array of artifacts and buildings based on its logging history
Just east of Crandon in Laona you’ll find an old fashioned steam train that the whole family can enjoy a ride on out to an old logging camp. Call ahead. Hours vary and are limited. (Don’t wear your nice wedding clothes!)
