If bourbon isn't your thing or you want to see Kentucky's other biggest attraction, visit the final resting place of one of the world's greatest Equine Athletes, Secretariat, at Clairborne farm. The bride's family would stop here while road tripping to Kansas to visit family. If you visit be sure to tell the father of the bride!
The first distillery Matt and Madeline visited together! Located in the heart of the distillery district in Lexington, this distillery is a short ride from downtown and gives an excellent tour. The distillery district is also a great place to grab a drink or a bite to eat. Matt visited Goodfellas, a local pizza joint, regularly while attending UK.
A newer distillery on the scene, but the facilities are some of the most beautiful! Originally built in 1887 the distillery was inspired by European architecture, featuring a Castle, a classical Springhouse, and a Sunken Garden. After falling into ruin during prohibition, the distillery has been completely restored to its original glory. Castle & Key started releasing clear liquors (gin mostly) in 2018 and released their first aged rye in 2022. If you're heading out to Frankfort for Woodford Reserve we highly recommend adding Castle & Key to your itinerary!
The winter season is a time of rest and relaxation for the horses. They spend most of their time turned out to their paddocks but take turns visiting Park guests during Stall-Side Chats check out the website to find the best time to see the horses. You can also visit the International Museum of the Horse and American Saddlebred Museum while at the park. Unfortunately, horseback and Pony Rides are closed for the winter season.
One of Matt and Madeline's favorite local spots for lunch or dinner!
