Danielle's first time in Nashville was in February 2012. She was there to interview for a job as an Educational Leadership Consultant with her sorority, Alpha Omicron Pi. Though that short weekend trip didn't take her far beyond her hotel room and the sorority headquarters building, she was lucky enough to land the job and return that summer for training. During her summer stay, Danielle made long lasting friendships with her ELC team (how she met Bridesmaids Nevena and Mary Kate) and some unforgettable memories in Nashville. Over the years, Danielle returned to Nashville for various occasions. She fell in love with the live music and Broadway. Eventually, during a trip for a wedding in October of 2017, Danielle thought to herself, "I wish I didn't have to leave." She realized she didn't and she moved to Nashville in May of 2018. Joe had first came to Nashville to visit his fraternity brother and Best Man, Ely, when he moved there in 2014. From 2015 to 2018, Joe made countless trips to Nashville, acquired a large group of friends there (including Groomsmen Travis and Richard), and eventually started making a yearly trip with his Nashville friends to Hangout Festival. Over those years, Joe fell in love with Rebar and always said that one day, he would live in Nashville. He talked about it every time he visited but his friends weren't fully convinced. During a trip for a wedding in December of 2018, though, he gave himself 6 months to move to the city. Joe made good on his word and began living in Nashville in April of 2019.
Joe and Danielle officially met in February 2017 when they started leading sister teams-- Joe in Charleston and Danielle in Los Angeles. Initially, Danielle was quoted as saying that Joe was a little cheesey. They did work extremely well together despite being complete opposites (if you know them, then no explanation needed here). Their managers often called them Yin and Yang, which was made even funnier by their reverse initials. Over that year, they bonded over conference calls, long road trips, and even longer work days. They found themselves in unexpected scenarios: trivia in a rural Virgina Applebees, karoke in a college bar, and even a car accident! Through these times, they realized they actually had a good bit in common. They loved college football, 90s and emo music, books/reading, snap back hats and British television. Little did they know (though others have bet from the start) that these commonalities and their great working relationship would lead to something more. They stayed friends after their projects were completed and in December of 2018, Joe visited Nashville for a friend's wedding. If you ask Joe what happened that weekend to make him decide that this was the time he was going to move, he'd tell you he doesn't remember. Danielle likes to think that she was the deciding factor. Regardless, Joe moved in April of 2019 and it wasn't long until the two were inseperable. By the end of summer, they were officially and FINALLY a couple and the "I told ya so's" started to pour in.
Let's face it, 2020 was a tough year for everyone. But trying to propose during quarantine, that was an added difficulty. Joe had the ring and a plan-- he was going to surprise Danielle with her friends from out of town (on Broadway of course). While she was distracted by that surprise, he planned to get down on one knee. Sadly, there was never a time when people could travel and gather. So, Joe went to option #2-- he was going to surprise Danielle with a proposal at her favorite place, Penn State! While she was distracted with getting their picture taken on campus, he'd pull out the ring... After waiting what felt like forever, they were finally able to go Pennsylvania in November of 2020. This time, the campus was a ghost town and there were no people around to take the picture. He decided to wait. Finally, on December 11th, Joe and Danielle had tickets to a drive through holiday lights show. Joe paid extra for the couple to take a picture with Santa. This time he knew there'd be a photographer and he could pull off the surprise. At the end of the lights show, Joe pulled up to Santa Claus Lane and started to jump out of the car. What Joe didn't know, was that this was a socially distanced picture and Danielle and Joe had to stay in the car while Santa was masked on a balcony... Feeling utterly defeated, Joe admitted the failed attempt to Danielle on the drive home. He then tried twice to propose at their house. The first time he chickened out and pretended it was a joke. Eventually, he was able to get it together and they ended their night with an awkward picture with Santa on the fridge and ring on Danielle's finger. THEY WERE ENGAGED!
