“Just so you know, I didn’t match with you on OkCupid. My friend did for me. You’re free to leave if you want, no harm, no foul,” Amy said, as Dan took his place at the table across from her. He had made his way down Interstate 95 to Fredericksburg, Virginia from Washington, D.C. in Tuesday rush hour traffic to play trivia with Amy at the Red Dragon Brewery. (It’s a 56 mile drive, and ordinarily traffic is hellacious. Dan took the express lanes because he was excited for the date and wanted to be on time. That’s a good thing because Amy values punctuality; she was a half hour early.) Amy’s friend Celia had matched them on the app. “CHECK YOUR OKCUPID!” Celia texted in early July. WOAH! Amy thought. This guy looks CUTE and kind. After many messages exchanged, Dan texted a confirmation for their first date: “Hi Amy, are we still on for trivia on Tuesday?” Dan and Amy did not win at trivia that evening (they came in third), though Dan was impressed with Amy’s recall on a question about the world’s most expensive baseball card, and Amy was impressed by Dan’s listening skills. The real victories that night were the walk they shared through downtown Fredericksburg after trivia and an agreement to go on a second date. On their second date, Dan shared his love of fine foods with a meal at Jaleo, and they shared their first kiss under the Washington Monument. Amy and Dan have grown together with their shared love for road trips, good food, music, mini-golfing, and history fun facts. They both knew it was meant to be when they realized what great travel partners they were. Foreshadowing? Dan proposed to Amy in February 2024 while they were visiting Malaysia for Chinese New Year. She said yes (obviously), and after they recreated the proposal from many angles for photos, the engagement ring went on Amy’s finger for good. We are so thrilled to have you, our closest friends and family, celebrate with us in June!
