Things To Do

Below is a list of restaurants and things to do or see. This city is my favorite and I want to share it with all of you while you're in town!

Pecan Lodge

2702 Main Street, Dallas, TX 75226
, (214) 748-8900

Probably the best barbecue in Dallas, hands down. Beau would probably say the best period. They're only open for lunch on weekdays (lunch and dinner on weekends), and there is always a line out the door, so take my advice and arrive when they open at 11am, or earlier! Pro Tip: you can skip the long line if you head straight to the "5 Pounds or More" line. That's five pounds of meat only, not including sides and extras. This is obviously best when you're with a group of people, but you do get to order a lot faster! My personal favorite menu item: the Hot Mess, a massive sweet potato topped with barbacoa. Just try it. You'll thank me.

Reunion Tower

Reunion Tower

300 Reunion Boulevard East, Dallas, TX 75207
, (214) 712-7040

Dallas' iconic landmark, Reunion Tower, also known locally as "The Ball", has some of the best views of the city. It has two restaurants and an indoor/outdoor observation deck at the top, all of it slowly rotating 360 degrees within a 55-minute time span. At night, the ball lights up and will often display light shows. Some of these light shows are catered to specific holidays and events happening around the city.

The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza

The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza

411 Elm Street, Dallas, TX 75202
, (214) 747-6660

For those of you who love museums, or are simply fascinated by the JFK assassination. This museum is awesome, despite the circumstances for which it exists, and really detailed. It is housed on the entire sixth floor of the old Texas School Book Depository, now known as the Dallas County Administration Building. While there, you can see the exact spot from which Lee Harvey Oswald fired his weapon. Once you're done touring the museum, you can walk around the corner to Dealey Plaza and view the spots where JFK was hit on Elm Street. Both spots are marked with a large white X. The Grassy Knoll, where the Zapruder film was shot, is also nearby, as well as the JFK Memorial.

Bishop Cidercade

Bishop Cidercade

2777 Irving Boulevard, Dallas, TX 75207
, (214) 364-7728

If you have time and are wanting to have a little fun, Bishop Cidercade is a great place to go. There is a $10 cover charge but it's totally worth it. The place is filled with classic arcade games that you can play to your heart's content for free. There's also a small bar area where you can order a cider brewed by Dallas local cidery Bishop Cider. In fact, the cider is actually brewed right there in the same building as the arcade.

Bishop Arts District

Bishop Arts District

419 North Bishop Avenue, Dallas, TX 75208

Bishop Arts District is a trendy, fun neighborhood located in Southwest Dallas. It has lots of great local shops and really great restaurants. If you're wanting to try the hard cider that Bishop Cider brews, but don't want to play arcade games or pay the $10 cover charge, you can go right to the original location of the cidery right here in this neighborhood. No cover charge required. Just pop in and start ordering! There's also a fantastic candle shop here called Society. There are so many candles packed into this tiny shop. They even have scents dedicated to each major city in Texas.

Keller's

Keller's

6537 Northwest Highway, Dallas, TX 75231
, (214) 368-1209

Keller's is an old Dallas staple. It's been around since 1963 and is truly Dallas' original drive-in. That's still how they do it today. They serve fantastic classic hamburgers, fries, and tater tots, although they're really known for their tots. Everything on the menu is also crazy cheap. If you find you're hungry and wanting a burger, stop in here. It's only a ten-minute drive from the wedding venue.

Deep Ellum

Dallas, TX 75226

Historic Deep Ellum is another great neighborhood in Dallas. Just like Bishop Arts District, it has lots of local shops and restaurants, but in my opinion, Deep Ellum is better. It's my favorite place in Dallas, besides the Arboretum of course. This is the exact neighborhood where Pecan Lodge is located and it's also the place where most of Dallas' music venues are located. I spent many nights here at many shows with my friends in high school.

Angry Dog

2726 Commerce Street, Dallas, TX 75226
, (214) 741-4406

Angry Dog is another fantastic burger joint and Dallas staple located in Deep Ellum. They haven't been around nearly as long as Keller's, but it's right up there in tastiness. If you're looking to eat a good burger inside a building, sitting at a table rather than inside your car, then this is definitely the place to go.
