Saturday Hike

Hiking shoes, warm clothes (depending on weather)!

Getting to the Hike: The trailhead is within the North-South Lake campground. Please park at the South Lake Picnic Area: https://maps.app.goo.gl/hyxths2zrYcWtkzH9. The drive from Phoenicia is approximately 30 mins. Please aim to arrive by 9:00 AM. We'll be heading out to hike by 9:15 AM! There's a fee of $10 per car to park for the day. The Hike: We'll be hiking along the Escarpment Trail to Sunset Rock in the beautiful Catskill Forest Preserve. This area has been a popular hiking destination since the early 1800s! Most of the hike is along a ridge, so expect many scenic lookouts for leaf-peeping. The hike is about 4 miles round trip with relatively flat terrain (some ups-and-downs). It'll take 2-2/12 Hrs. Before and After Hike: We rented the picnic pavilion near the trailhead and by the South Lake Picnic Area parking lot. We will have light breakfast and coffee available and cold drinks after the hike!
