Flight

STL Airport

St. Louis Lambert International Airport is a 20 minute drive or a 45 minute train ride to the recommended hotels. Fun fact about STL Lambert Field: this airport is where Charles Lindbergh was first employed as a pilot! He flew airmail from this airport to Chicago in 1926 before leaving to work on the "Spirit of St. Louis" plane that he famously flew from New York to Paris in the world's first solo transatlantic flight.

Train

Metro St Louis

St. Louis has a transit system called "Metro Transit", usually referred to as "Metro." MetroLink is the train system, while MetroBus is obviously the bus system. MetroLink consists of two lines, the red and blue, which each run every 20 minutes from 5am to 1am. The lines overlap throughout downtown St. Louis, which means there is a train every 10 minutes through downtown. For those flying to STL Airport, the MetroLink Red Line connects both Terminal 1 and 2 to the city. The destination will be shown as "Shiloh-Scott" for the trains heading into the city. The Union Station Hotel is adjacent to the Union Station stop. Physical tickets can be purchased at Ticket Machines within any MetroLink station (including at the airport). Validate your ticket by inserting it into a red validation machine on the platform. Tickets can also be bought through an app called "Transit", https://transitapp.com, and you can purchase tickets ahead of time without activating them if you'd like. A guide to the whole app-purchasing process is available here: https://www.metrostlouis.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Transit_Masabi_Ticketing_Guide.pdf Other Notes There is a MetroStore with Metro-themed gear and accessories, as well as some art, near the station "8th & Pine" downtown (not far from the Gateway Arch). The Loop Trolley is a free old-school trolley/streetcar line that runs between the Missouri History Museum (located inside Forest Park) and the "Delmar Loop", a popular strip of shops and restaurants along Delmar Blvd.
