Chase and Julia met at a New Year's Eve party thrown by Chase's best friend Julian. Julia was invited as a plus-one by her best friend Makayla, who was Julian's girlfriend at the time. (They're MARRIED now!!) The exact year and details are slightly fuzzy, as most parties from that period of time are. Those who know Chase and Julia know that they are both on the shy side. Since graduating high school, Julia had decided to try and make new friends. What better opportunity to do so then at a New Year's Eve party where you only know one person? Chase was sitting at the kitchen island when Julia arrived. She noticed he had on an Appalachian State University hat--the same college she went to! She plucked up all her courage and walked over to her potential new friend. "Do you go to App?" She asked Chase. Chase, with slight terror in his eyes, replied "Nope!" and promptly got up and hurried out of the room. Julia didn't realize until MANY years later that Chase reacted so strangely because he thought she was pretty and not because she had somehow gravely offended him by trying to be his friend. We'd say the rest is history, but really it took almost four more years of Chase trying to reverse his initial faux pas (and an ultimatum from Jade to either ask the girl out or STOP talking about her) for Chase to make a move and for Julia to realize they are kind of perfect for each other.

As Chase and Julia's story began, this story too includes Makayla and Julian. Julia and Makayla have planned many trips throughout their friendship, usually surrounding an All Time Low concert. This trip planned for Julia's birthday was no different. Julia, Chase, Makayla, and Julian all set off for a whirlwind 60-hour trip to Chicago, IL, with two goals: see another All Time Low concert and visit The Bean. Those who have seen the hit movie "LOL" starring Miley Cyrus know the awesomeness of the Bean (if you haven't seen the movie, Google works fine too). The friends flew in Friday after a flight delay, made it to the concert in the nick of time, and gave themselves a full day in Chicago on Saturday to explore, with the Bean and a fancy dinner marking the end of their day. Mak, the loving friend she is, wore a dress the whole day in the blazing sun, just to convince Julia to do the same for the surprise that awaited her at the Bean. After fighting their way through crowds, barricades, and a metal detector (that almost ruined the surprise if not for Julian's quick thinking), the friends arrived at the Bean. Julia was completely oblivious for the entire ordeal, as usual. Chase asked her to take photos with him in front of the Bean. Chase rarely asks to take photos, so Julia jumped at the opportunity. Makayla and Julian so graciously offered to take their photos for them. After a few seconds, Chase got down on one knee and asked Julia to marry him. Neither of them remember what he said due to shock (Julia) and nerves (Chase), but Chase said what he practiced was really sweet and heartfelt, so we think it was probably pretty close to that. Julia said yes (obviously) and the friends proceeded to a fancy dinner to celebrate the new engagement. Two of Julia's bucket list items were crossed off that day. She tells Chase that it was the best day of her life thus far, and the proposal was pretty cool too.
