Nelson 151 is the destination for award-winning Virginia craft beverages, local food & artisans, unique lodging and amazing natural beauty. Virginia Route 151 is a state-designated scenic byway on the sunrise side of the Blue Ridge that is home to the Nelson 151 community. Seven wineries (Afton Mountain Vineyards, Cardinal Point Vineyard and Winery, Flying Fox Vineyard and Winery, Hazy Mountain, Hill Top Berry Meadery & Winery, Valley Road Vineyards and Veritas Vineyard), four breweries (Blue Mountain Brewery, Bryant’s Brewing, Devils Backbone Brewing Company and Hazy Mountain), three cideries (Blue Toad Hard Cider, Bold Rock Hard Cider and Bryant’s Dry Ciders) and two distilleries (Silverback Distillery and Devils Backbone Distilling Co.) collaborate to more efficiently market and leverage their unique “micro” appellation.
Turk Mountain Hike: Located at mile 94 in Shenandoah National Park, this 2.2 mile round trip provides plenty of beautiful views of the Shenandoah Valley. Boulders at the summit makes Turk Mountain a cool place to hang out for a while as you can climb and explore through them.
Parking is available at 6796 Sugar Hollow Rd., near the Charlottesville Reservoir. Walk along the trail for about 1.5 miles. Total hike is 3 miles. There are multiple river crossings. Enjoy a refreshing swim at the Blue Hole!
A 4.6-mile out-and-back hike leads visitors through a historic railroad tunnel from the 1850s. Bring a headlamp. It gets very dark in the Blue Ridge Tunnel. Your best bet is to map to the East Trailhead in Afton, which has a large parking area. This is the starting point for most hikers.
Whether you complete Humpback Rocks as a 4.3-mile loop or a 2.0-mile out-and-back hike, you’re guaranteed to be stunned by 360-degree views. The ascent is not for the faint of heart. Thankfully, a handful of benches and a wooden staircase ease the trek to the summit where vistas are plentiful.
Monticello was the primary plantation of Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the United States, who began designing Monticello after inheriting land from his father at age 26. Tickets are approximately $40 for adults and $15 for kids.
