We met through our very close friend Christian, who was Ben's flatmate and Jennie's coworker at the time. Jennie and Christian were going to an after work social in Boston and Christian brought along Ben and introduced us. We saw each other several more times during group hangouts. Then, when Jennie decided to go to grad school to get her masters, Christian gave her Ben's number so she could have a fellow grad-school buddy. We quickly became best friends after that. After some time, Jennie asked Ben out on a date, but he turned her down at first! (It's scary making the transition from friends to a couple). A few weeks later, Ben decided to take her out on a date for real, and we've been together ever since.
Ben and Jennie used to go to Mamalehs Deli in Cambridge, MA every single weekend for brunch when they were dating. When Ben decided he would propose to Jennie, he knew he had to pop the question there. On a chilly morning in August 2021, we went to Mamalehs in person for the first time since the pandemic and had a couple deli sandwiches and sodas together, followed by some dessert and a milkshake. Ben subtly handed his phone to an employee behind the bar while Jennie got a refill on her drink, and when she returned he started talking about their future together and the prospect of having kids come with them to Mamalehs. He got down on one knee, popped the big question, and Jennie enthusiastically said yes!
