Yes! All international travelers are required to have a passport, including infants and children. To learn more about the application process, please visit the U.S. Department of State website. If you don't have one, it's recommended to budget at least 12 weeks of lead time so please plan accordingly! If you already have a passport, please check the expiration date. The U.S. State Department recommends that international travelers have 6 months of validity on their passport after their return trip date.
That isn't necessary! The travel section of the website lists a few options of getting around once you've arrived into the Puerto Vallarta airport. Once you're in Puerto Vallarta, using uber to get around works just fine.
The drinking water in Puerto Vallarta is safer than most other parts of Mexico, but you shouldn't drink it unless you know it's passed through a local filter. The Hyatt Ziva will offer bottled and/or purified water, but it's still not recommended to drink from the tap. That said, it's generally safe to brush your teeth.
PV is one of the safest cities in Mexico. That said, you should still exercise caution just as you would in any other unfamiliar environment. Pay attention to your surroundings and don't leave your belongings unattended.
Not really. If you don't plan on leaving the resort, it is not necessary to obtain pesos. Even if you do venture into town, most places will accept US dollars or credit card. If you do wish to exchange dollars for pesos, you may do so at the currency exchange at the airport (though the exchange rate will be much better at a bank in town). There is also an atm machine at the airport where you can access pesos (just be aware if your bank charges international atm fees).
