Okay, it wasn't that long ago. It was May 3rd, 2021 when Amy and Will first locked eyes at work. After some pandemic related job changes, they both ended up working at a little place called Terrain. It was Amy's first day, and she'll never forget her first impression of Will. "What a loser," she thought, as he told a story about falling asleep with his boots on after work every day. Fortunately, she was wildly incorrect. Turns out, Will would be the one training her over the next couple weeks. During this time Amy witnessed first hand how kind and helpful Will was to everyone. Seeing how hard he worked made the whole falling-asleep-with-his-boots-on thing make sense. Will's first impression of Amy was a little more forgiving... "beautiful eyes." Of course, she was always in a face mask and baseball cap, so that's really all he could see. He flirted. It wasn't subtle. But, even, under the face masks, she couldn't deny he was pretty cute. Looking for some handyman help for her apartment, she recruited her coworker Will to help her paint. "You're nice and tall," she proposed, "I'll pay you in beer and pizza." Of course, his reply was, "of course!" so they exchanged numbers. Innocent, right? Wrong! The conversation flowed so naturally, the two quickly went from coworkers to friends. "So, would you wanna get a drink sometime? Or is that weird..." asked Will. "Sure, but just as friends, right?" "Just as friends."
After a few weeks of getting to know each other at work and bonding over movies and 2000's song references, one Friday afternoon, everything changed. Amy drove by Will on the Kubota as he was leaving for the day, and the two stopped to chat. "Got any fun plans tonight?" asked Will. "Yeah, going out to dinner in West Chester." replied Amy. "Oh nice! With friends?" "No, with you." And just like that... Will picked her up at eight. They ate, they drank, they had a great time. The best part? They talked in Will's car outside Amy's apartment until 2:00 in the morning! They didn't want the night to end. The next day, Amy could barely keep her eyes open at work so Will brought her a coffee. They made plans to get together on Sunday, but neither could wait, so, they saw each other again that night. They've been attached at the hip ever since.
Despite the obvious mutual feelings, Amy tried to maintain a stance of "nothing serious" which Will respected... for a little while. "Amy, come on, there's some kind of magic happening here." He was right. Amy was working a few jobs at the time, one being a horse farm in Malvern, so her free time was limited. To spend time with her, every Monday, Will would leave Terrain at 4pm, get to the farm, and help Amy with the horses, even though he had spent all day working outside at his own job (this is something Will continued to do as long as Amy worked at the barn). He did the hard stuff like carrying water buckets, filling up troughs, and slinging hay bales. He even bonded with some of the horses. Will accompanied Amy to all her farm and house-sitting gigs whenever he was free, to help her care for the animals, but mostly, to spend time with her. It didn't take long for the two to fall in love.
Proceeding with caution, Amy let Will ask her to be his girlfriend. If you couldn't guess, she said yes. The early days of their relationship were filled with date nights in town, takeout and movies, surprise day trips, and finding ways to spend as much time together as possible. One afternoon Amy and Will walked around Longwood Gardens, absolutely in love but too afraid to admit it (it's too soon!) Later that night, unable to contain it anymore, Amy blurted it out while simultaneously bursting into tears. "I'm in love with you!" "I'm in love with you, too." They have said "I love you" to each other about 100 times a day since.
Will and Amy seamlessly merged lives, apartments, friends and families. Will valiantly took on the important roles of cat dad, fun uncle, and most importantly, Amy's best friend. Amy's family welcomed Will and his mom for holidays and now they can't imagine it any other way. They love hosting parties in their tiny apartment and cooking for friends and family. They make a great team: Amy cooks, Will does the dishes. Mundane tasks like going to the laundromat or grocery store feel like adventures when you're with your best friend. They read together, play board games, enjoy movies and their favorite shows, and obsess over how cute their cats are. Amy and Will also frequent the Renaissance Faire and fan expos, and fortunately, share a love of all things fantasy. Mostly, they talk to each other endlessly about anything and everything. "I never get tired of talking to you." "You're my best friend." The couple tries to take trips whenever possible, whether it's a weekend camping trip or a road trip to Las Vegas (no they didn't elope, yes they thought about it). Most often, they travel to upstate New York, both having ties to the state and a love for the mountains. "I'd go anywhere with you." "I'm home, as long as I'm with you."
The couple has spoken candidly about getting married and knew it was going to happen one day. "You could tie a string around my finger and I'd say yes," she told him. On March 21, 2024, while on a getaway to the north country, Will asked Amy to be his wife. They had taken the week off work, took a couple day trips, and were finishing their vacation visiting friends in Upstate New York. Getting proposed to was the last thing on Amy's mind that week. Will really caught her off guard! They spent the morning walking around Amy's college town of Potsdam, NY and taking a snowy hike along the Racquette River. Little did Amy know, Will had already informed their friends that he would be proposing that night. Their dinner plans took them to a restaurant in Hannawa Falls. They posed to take a picture in front of the water, like they've done many times before, so, Amy thought nothing of it... until Will got down on one knee. With blue skies reflecting on the water and Will kneeling in the snow, squeals of excitement filled the air as Amy leapt into Will's arms. She said "yes" before he could even get the question out.
