Q: What do you wear?

Our musician team wears formal black/symphony attire.

Q: Do you learn new songs?

Yes! We’re happy to learn almost any piece you’d like and take special requests all the time. We do charge an extra $30 per requested song outside of our repertoire list/setlists (if there is existing sheet music that we’re able to use). If the sheet music costs more than $30, the special request will be the cost of the sheet music. If existing sheet must is not available, we will quote for a custom arrangement. This quote will be based on the amount of time it will take to arrange, the number of parts we must write, the size of the ensemble, and the difficulty of the piece. Custom arrangements typically start at $80.

Q: Do you provide music for wedding ceremonies or cocktail receptions?

We offer prelude + ceremony, prelude, ceremony, + cocktail hour, and dinner packages.

Q: Are you fully insured?

Yes, we carry insurance and are easily able to send our certificate your way/add additional insured(s) as needed by your venue.

Q: What is your style?

From classical to pop to oldies/rock and more, we have taken time to create setlists based on what you'd like to hear.

Q: How early do you come to set up?

We typically arrive 45 minutes before the performance begins. Example (based on a 5pm ceremony start time): 3:45pm Arrival 4:30pm Prelude Set (1 Setlist from our website) 5pm Ceremony 1 Hour Cocktail Performance

Q: Do you attend rehearsals?

No, we will not attend your wedding rehearsal. We perform for hundreds of events annually, and have created a detailed music questionnaire to be sure that the ensemble/musician knows exactly who is walking to which piece/processional. We often encourage the client to use a pre-existing recording during their rehearsal, as we will keep the song as true to the original tempo/style as possible.

Founder/Owner & Lead Cellist

Carolina Music Planner offers a variety of live music options for your special day, and will coordinate the performances from ceremony music to the reception. With over 15 years of wedding performance experience, Founder/Cellist Megan Johnson-Barnes has a vision simplifying the process from start to finish for our clients. With diverse options from string quartets to Appalachia/folk duos, we have an ensemble for every client. Offering organized, concise packages, we strive to provide top-notch, experienced service and stunning performances.

Megan has been honored to share the stage with Yo-Yo Ma, Andres Cardenes, Bela Fleck, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, William Preucil, and many other world-renowned musicians. She attended the advanced division of Brevard Music Festival. Currently living in Asheville, NC, she enjoys performing with the Johnson City Symphony, STACE, and her regular string trio consisting of harp, violin, and cello. She will be sure that your wedding/special event music is performed at the highest level of professionalism, only hiring the most talented musicians in the region.

From the moment we first reached out to Carolina Music Planner, their communication was friendly, efficient and quick. They were always available to answer any questions we had during the planning process. On the day of our wedding, the quality of their work was truly excellent - they played the Jurassic Park theme as I walked down the aisle, and it was absolutely beautiful to hear them perform that special song. The music they provided was above and beyond, and we give them a 10/10 rating. It's true, music makes the world go 'round....and so we could not imagine having a wedding without some live, authentic, strings. Carolina Music Planner was the cherry on top for our intimate wedding in the mountains. They played our special requests, were on time, and were super duper easy to communicate with. Founder, Megan, is a delight to work with and has no become a wonderful companion. Definitely check them out!
