At the heart of the thriving early industrial community known as Rittenhouse Town, the first paper mill in America was built. It all began when, in 1687, papermaker William Rittenhouse followed other Quaker and Mennonite families emigrating to the newly formed neighborhood of Germantown (founded in 1683). William partnered with Philadelphia’s first printer, purchased a 20-acre plot of land along Paper Mill Run (a tributary of the Wissahickon Creek) and, with the help of his son Nicholas, built the first paper mill in British North America that otherwise could only be delivered from England. For the next 40 years, the Rittenhouse family were the only papermakers in America.

Situated on the property is a beautiful 1800’s Farmhouse, bank barn, granary, and other farm buildings. These buildings are all surrounded by trees and a flowing creek and features a tree lined farm lane and rolling fields. It is as peaceful as it comes, feeling completely secluded from the outside world.

Located in the heart of Amish Country in historic Lancaster County, the mansion was built around 1845 by Captain William Fassitt as a place to host lavish parties and entertain guests. Which has the unique distinction of having been a stop for the underground railroad Today, guests still arrive to enjoy the tranquility of the rolling farmlands, or to take the short drive to outlet shopping, Longwood Gardens and the many Amish attractions of the region. The Fishing Creek supports native trout and other rare small fishes. The waterfall is adjacent to the buildings. There is a hiking trail within the property. There is wetland and much more.
