I was lucky enough to have a part-time job, and I’d saved up enough money to buy a Canon GL2 – a much sought-after camcorder. I would film my friends and I skating. We ended up purchasing a computer in order to learn video editing, and put together a full skate video after years of stacking footage. I sold that first video to a skate shop in Bakersfield.

Aperina Studios opened its doors in 2009 when Vitaliy and Paul decided to put their passions for cinematography and photography to work. i grew up in europe and from early on used my father's rolleiflex and super 8 cameras. to me, old photographs evoke a sense of nostalgia, which inspired me to tell stories a bit abstract and ephemeral like reveries. my films are more like vignettes, moments in time that provide a glimpse of what it felt like on your day. which i think helps convey an essence about who you are and what the experience was like.
