Summers Mill Retreat and Conference center has been built on a rich history. When it was founded in 1998 by Paul and Jane Meyer, they wanted "this place to be a ministry and to lead with a servant’s heart based on Christian values and principles." The name of our retreat center goes back to the grist mill built by John Myers in the spring of 1866. Business was good and within a year, he added a saw mill and a cotton gin. When John Myers died, it passed in rapid succession through the hands of Robert A. Myers, Douglas McKenzie, and D.C. Summers. Summers installed a crossroads store and secured a post office under the name of Summers Mill.

The barn had no bathrooms, no parking, and a dirt floor - so we graciously declined but the seed had been planted. After leaving our daily jobs in ministry we ventured out to find the perfect 20 acres to build our dream on. The Kemp (1300 Lamar Street) was built in 1917 at the request of Flora Kemp who, when asked by her husband Joseph what she would like for her birthday, suggested a public library. The library opened its doors in 1918 with a donation of 4000 books provided by the community. In 1998, the City of Wichita Falls leased the then-defunct historic building to the Arts Council, which began an extensive renovation project to restore the building. The result was The Kemp Center for the Arts, which opened it’s doors in 2002.

The turn of the century brick building, originally a wholesale grocery warehouse, was built by Augustus Chapel King who founded and operated The King Grocery Company. Our 26-acre ranch has 2 beautiful wedding venues, 5 ceremony locations, a full-service restaurant and bar, huge trees, water and peacocks. We specialize in weddings and would love to host your special day! The Pavilion is our larger and most popular venue. It seats 200 people inside and 600+ adding outdoor space. Pavilion weddings held on Saturdays also include an overnight stay in our bridal cottage (check-in 8am on wedding day, check-out at noon on the following day). The Canyon House is a private waterfront home at the back of the property. It seats 60 people inside and 150 adding outdoor space. The Canyon House could also be added onto a pavilion wedding as a groom's house/ overnight lodging for up to 14 people for $1,000 (check-in 8am on wedding day, check-out at noon on the following day).
