Mama Juke

5.0

Brooklyn, NY
  • Band or Ensemble
  • Starts at $2,000
  • Serves Barnegat, NJ

Mama Juke is a gumbo of New Orleans influenced blues, blue-eyed soul, funk, and folk. Actor/singer Elijah Bridges brings elements of bluegrass and rag with his soulful harmonica, acoustic guitar, and voice. Amos Rose is a world traveling multi-instrumentalist who also sings and plays lead Telecaster guitar, and was recently featured by Jazz at Lincoln Center. Brendan O’Grady is an in-demand session musician and fixture on the greater New York scene since his roots growing up in Yonkers. Drummer Jon Wert is a sought-after musician, collaborating with a wide variety of artists in the jazz, rock, pop production shows and songwriter worlds.

We booked Mama Juke for our 9/24/2022 wedding and they did not disappoint. I can’t say I wasn’t nervous, as they didn’t have any reviews posted yet, but Jon was very helpful in addressing all our concerns and they kept our guests entertained and dancing all night long! They learned our first dance song- Golden Hour by Kacey Musgraves and put their own flair to it, which we loved. They are such a fun mix of rock, jazz, bluegrass, country and played a good mix of songs for all ages. I would also recommend listening to some of their original songs and including them in your day, my husband and I were so happy we did. :) I want to have another wedding just so we can have them play again!

The Jon Bates Band

5.0

New York, NY
  • Band or Ensemble
  • Serves Barnegat, NJ

THE JON BATES BAND is an amazing dance-oriented “party band” that always gets folks dancing, feeling good and celebrating the occasion! THE JON BATES BAND is a "destination event band". They have literally performed all over the globe, providing an arsenal of abundantly talented musicians and vocalists, who perform an extensive repertoire of popular music in all styles and genres. They have the professionalism and touring experience required to offer clients the highest quality entertainment options on every level, and they have shared stages with some of the most legendary performers on the planet! - find more info at www.JonBatesBand.com

We saw the Jon Bates Band perform at our friends' wedding in Vermont a number of years ago. My now-husband and I knew (before we were even engaged!) that we wanted these guys to play our wedding, should we get to that point together. Fortunately, they travel all over and were happy to come to Delaware for our 10/5/2019 wedding. Communication was smooth throughout the entire process, and they were completely open to working with us on our song list and catering to what we really love most. Their rendition of our first dance song was spot-on to what we hoped it would be. They played a consistently strong set all night and had everyone - and I mean everyone! - up and dancing. I can honestly say that it could not have gone better, nor could we have enjoyed it more. I highly recommend this group of talented musicians.

Cause and The Effects

5.0

Staten Island, NY
  • Band or Ensemble
  • Starts at $8,500
  • Serves Barnegat, NJ

Based in Staten Island, New York, Cause and The Effects is an enthusiastic band comprised of young musical professionals ready to perform at your wedding. The band was founded in 2011 but the versatile members have been playing together and separately for more than two decades. You can choose between a seven-, eight-, or 10-piece band to perform at your reception, while smaller groups can perform during the ceremony and cocktail hour. Show-stopping music is performed with a variety of instruments such as horns, percussion, saxophones, flute, and piano. They are based in Staten Island but are willing to travel to destination weddings.

If you’re considering a live band for your wedding reception, look no further than Cause and the Effects. We hired the full 10-piece band to play at our wedding reception on 9/23/23, and that was undoubtedly one of the best decisions we made. From our initial calls all the way through the actual event, the band set themselves apart and proved to be far more than a standard event vendor. They were completely invested in giving us the best experience possible. Vin and Anthony took the time to get to know us, our interests, and how we wanted the event to flow, and used all of that information to put together an amazing set. Our reception had a few unique twists, and the band took each of our requests in stride with enthusiasm and professionalism. Leading up to our reception, Vin communicated with some of our other vendors to make sure any intersecting elements (for example, audio/video and lighting) went smoothly. And day-of, the full band’s talent and energy blew us away. Once the party started, it did not stop for a single second. We, the majority of our guests–and eventually, some of the band members & instruments themselves!--were going wild on the dance floor the entire night. Even the non-dancers in the crowd were sitting and enjoying the music with huge smiles on their faces. Throughout the event, many people pulled us aside so they could tell us how much they were loving the music…and in speaking to guests afterward, the first thing every single person mentioned was how incredible the band was. And talk about a personal playlist–not only did they create a completely unique rendition of our first dance song (Starlight by Muse) to match our dance choreography, but they also delivered a huge surprise. In our consultations, we’d mentioned how important the band Linkin Park is to us…so Cause and the Effects learned “In the End” just for us, and delivered a phenomenal performance as one of the closing songs of the night. It was so meaningful, and it’s something we’ll never forget. Please don’t hesitate to make Cause and the Effects one of the first vendors you book for your event. "Five stars" is not a high enough rating!

Have about 200 people showing up to your reception and want to guarantee that everyone from your aunts and uncles to your most particular friend all send you texts about how perfect your wedding band was? Great, you're done with your search. We worked with The Hook Club on an ambitious two-day wedding, which included them doing live sound for our Friday welcome party, live sound for the music at our ceremony, some deep cut requests, and our desire to not just have "another wedding band." What we got was an incredibly talented, creative, and kind group of people who were ready to make whatever we wanted happen, ready to add ideas and layers, and who then completely blew away our expectations. We're in that era of our lives where we've been to about 100 weddings in the last 10 years, and we can honestly say that no band has even come close to The Hook Club. A year later everyone is still talking about how great our band was. They are true professionals in every sense of the word, and you should seriously consider booking your venue around whether or not THC is available. That's not hyperbole - they were that good.

Justin was lovely to work with from the start. He was booked for another wedding, but he paired us up with Rob, an associate DJ of his. Both Rob and Justin were so so fun to work with. Rob took the time to text or set up whatever zoom calls we felt we needed. For the actual day, Rob was amazing. We had dinner service, reception, and "after party". Robs killed it with his flow between songs, and was incredibly accommodating and flexible if we had any requests in the moment, and was able to dodge or handle any "questionable" song requests that came his way. We knew that he always put my husband and I's wishes first. We also had multiple people comment on how good the DJ was during the reception, and after the fact! He also went above and beyond to pull heroics the day of to get some of our DIY spot lighting set up that wasn't set up the night prior. Rob was incredible to work with, and just as fun to chat with. Will miss working with them, but absolutely will be following their journeys and would use them again in a heartbeat! So thankful for Justin and Rob!

My husband and I have really diverse tastes in music, and the crowd at our wedding was honesty a weird mix, so Ernest and Marlowe had their work cut out for them. Pros: -Had a cool app you could plug all your music into, incredibly detailed. -The MC was an absolute hoot -Tried very hard to get the guests to dance. -Everything was set up in time and looked nice. -Open communication, could accommodate our venue needs. Cons: -(my biggest issue) The DJs phone was hooked up to the ceremony speakers, he got a message as I was walking down the aisle. Funny in retrospect, upsetting at the time. -Would skip songs midway through. Have a very funny video of the groom and groomsmen singing a song and the DJ stopped playing it midway through. -My nephew requested "We Don't Talk About Bruno" and for some reason he played the instrumental version? It was really weird. If you're a really type A bride I wouldn't go for Electrified DJs. If you're planning your wedding like its a big party for you and your guests? Have at it

Kelton from Marquee Artists was amazing! He was a communicative and active participant in the planning of the music and the announcements at my wedding on March 9. Kelton provided an extensive list of potential songs to play in a shared Google Document with columns for “play” and “do not play” which was great. Also, I was impressed that he attended the walk through of the Whittemore House a month prior to the wedding, asking pertinent questions of the Whittemore staff about the placement of various things and how best to provide the sound amplification that would be needed. He provided wireless mics which worked really well for the toasts. Kelton did a great job as the master of ceremony and his mix of the selected music was fun and fabulous. He had the crowd dancing, rocking to the music. Many of the older folks told me that they hadn’t danced in years but were having lots of fun doing so then. Having him on our wedding team instilled so much confidence in me, my daughter and new son-in-law, who is an amateur DJ. They were so taken by Kelton that, if possible, they would like to attend future events at which Kelton is the DJ!! I HIGHLY recommend him.

Words can’t express how much we loved working with Ana & Jimmy and the entire Amp DJ Band Hybrid. My husband really wanted a band while I really wanted a DJ, Amp DJ band was the perfect mix. We found Ana & Jimmy immediately and were able to schedule a meeting with them the next day. We knew right away that they were right for us. They were extremely attentive and outgoing from the start. They answered all out of questions and addressed concerns we had. We booked them immediately because we didn’t want to miss out on the opportunity to work with them. We met with them several times through our 6 month planning process. They responded immediately to any questions that popped up along the way and even allowed us to make a last minute change the night before. They well exceeded our musical playlist, taking the songs we requested and tailoring the rest of the music to fit the vibe. There was a perfect mix of live songs and an awesome dj set. The amount of compliments my husband & I received about the band far exceeded anything we expected. All of our guests LOVED them (of course as did we). So many people reached out that night or the next day to say how impressed they were with Ana, Jimmy & the whole band. We also had an acoustic guitar player at our cocktail hour which was amazing. If you’re debating getting a band for your wedding because your heart is set on a DJ, seriously look no further than Amp DJ Band hybrid. You will not be disappointed. I want to have another event just to work with them again!

The "Original" Moonlighters ®

3.7

Washington, DC
  • Band or Ensemble
  • Starts at $2,000
  • Serves Barnegat, NJ for additional fees

Since 1990, The Moonlighters ® have been performing throughout the U.S. as one of the country’s best-loved and most authentic Motown and variety dance bands, covering all your Jazz/Blues/Oldies/Motown/Soul/Disco/Funk/Classic Rock/Pop favorites! Just close your eyes and you’ll swear the original artists are performing. But don’t close them for too long or you won’t be able to enjoy their outstanding dance moves and showmanship.

We're quite saddened by their google review, posted even before we had a chance to actually speak with them to clear up several serious inaccuracies. Our band has HUNDREDS of positive online reviews/satisfied wedding clients. And we'll always accept valid criticism. But this one is mostly false and unfair. As Zola does not provide the option for responding to negative reviews, the following are our comments: 1. Since the bride and groom hadn't hired a wedding planner everything was extremely disorganized as we received their timeline just one week prior to the event, but then they changed it twice more, including two days before. Despite asking for our bandleader's phone #, the groom never reached out to discuss any of these details. In other words, we were given minimal direction in regard to all of the last-minute changes. Even on the wedding day itself, our band was asked to set and reset their equipment multiple times because the bride and groom disagreed with the onsite coordinator's floor plan, moving/resetting the bride and groom table as well! 2. According to what the photographer told us, the bride and groom's limo driver was over 90 min. late, shifting the entire timeline and putting them in a bad mood from the very beginning, as noticed by our bandleader at around 5:15pm when he first introduced himself, prior to the band providing either live or recorded music. 3. Regarding the recorded music, it was only lacking for approx. 45 min. as the band discovered the phone battery issue at approx. 7:45pm, during their first break, quickly rectifying the situation by putting the phone on a charger and then continuing with the recorded music outside from approx. 8-10pm. Furthermore, they made up for it by keeping their system running for an extra 30 min., beyond our contracted time of 11pm. And those comments regarding the afterparty are also totally untrue as somebody from the band was manning the system, until a cousin of the bride or groom demanded that he use her playlist instead, and then she responded angrily when he finally turned off the system at 11:30pm. 4. As for the band's sound system, we do acknowledge some 'hum' issues as there was just one electrical outlet provided for the entire band, resulting in 'dirty power' which couldn't be fully corrected. And we deeply regret mispronouncing the various names as most were very unfamiliar and of Indian origin, despite our lining up the wedding party in advance and writing everything down phonetically. 5. Even though some of the client's emails mentioned solo keys during cocktails, we provided a duo, covering an extra 30 min. of recorded music from 4:30-5pm at no extra charge, as requested. While it's standard practice for a band to take a dinner break during an almost six hr. event, this was clearly-specified in our contract as well. And then we performed continuously from 8:30-10pm, including most of the requested songs that we had prepared well in advance. So their comments about seemingly just 'walking off a bus' are completely false and misleading. In other words, our musicians went 'above and beyond' in spite of some very challenging circumstances. 6. Fortunately, we did receive a 'happy reaction' with a crowded dance floor and TONS of compliments from the guests, some requesting pictures w/the band too, while even the bride and groom were singing along and dancing non-stop, which we were VERY happy to see, making their negative review even more surprising though!

When my husband and I were looking into wedding entertainment, we wanted a band that would keep everyone on the dance floor all night long. As two Penn Staters, who couldn't have had a better fit than My Hero Zero. Everyone we worked with, from their management team, to the band itself was amazing. We couldn't have asked for a better band, the dance floor was packed the entire time and people commented how it was the most fun wedding they had every been too. Working with Angel, their manager, was a breeze. She helped to coordinate everything from ceremony music, cocktail hour and even the playlist during the band's intermission. Jason was great at all of the emcee aspects of a wedding and all of the Penn State tie ins, from fight songs to Zombie Nation was exactly what we wanted. We didn't feel like we were at a wedding, we felt like we were at a concert! Each member of the band is so talented, we couldn't have been happier with the decision to have My Hero Zero perform at our wedding, would hire them 10 times out of 10!

Gregory Wilson

5.0

Brooklyn, NY
  • DJ
  • Starts at $2,000
  • Serves Barnegat, NJ for additional fees

My love of music started in the back seat of my dads car as he took me to daycare, with Marvin Gaye's "What's Goin On" on repeat. My love of music spans generations, cultures and genres, and has taken me all over the world, from England, Spain, St. Marteen, and Austria. My hope is that you allow me to curate a musical experience that will leave your guest talking about your wedding for years to come. As for me, I am a Brooklyn native, who during the pandemic was able leave corporate career to pursue my passion of music. My perspective, is to include and create, safe spaces for guests to feel young, and carefree - even if for a few moments.

Best decision we made regarding our wedding was booking Gregory. His energy, enthusiasm, and passion for curating the perfect music set for us was evident from the very start. He really cared to get to know us, our culture, and our musical styles—which was a very wide range! He really mixes all genres effortlessly. Like he’s truly an incredible artist. In addition to his musical talent, what’s most admirable is his love for music and passion for how music should make people feel. He put a smile on everyone’s face by interacting with the crowd and showing our guests new dance moves! Even though our wedding was 30 people the energy he created made it feel like a HUGE PARTY. Our other vendors even stayed beyond their contractual times because they loved the DJ and we’re having so much fun they didn’t want to leave just yet! Gregory is still the talk of our wedding, weeks later, guests have texted us randomly just to say how great the DJ was at our wedding.
