She is the most awesome ambassador for the Viceroy hotels. The hotel was new and well maintained and we loved the outdoor patio where we held our reception. If you are looking a place to host a small outdoor wedding and or reception definitely consider the Viceroy. They heard our concerns and made sure our safety and the safety of our guests was paramount. The food was amazing, definitely try the chicken sandwich!”

The inside is set up as a house so it has a few rooms that your guests can mingle through which creates great flow in your event! It doubles as an art gallery too which is super cool! The KM staff are always helpful, clear and responsive with any questions you may have. “When I was looking for a hair and makeup artist, I wanted someone who I felt confident could help me decide the look for my wedding and come up with options for my naturally curly hair. However, I knew the deciding factor would be whether I felt confident that the artist could make every member of my bridal party that was diverse (in terms of race, disability, and LGBTQ) bridal party look and feel beautiful. Carla's portfolio showed me that she really lives her values of inclusion and I booked her with full confidence after our phone consultation the day after my inquiry. She gave me different options for the schedule for either just her or her and a team. I ended up going with the option of her and her team to not start so early and have a more efficient schedule. I was right to place my trust in her and the team she works with! I did a trial a couple weeks before my wedding, which I cannot recommend highly enough. It was definitely one of the most fun experiences of the entire wedding planning process! Carla spent a few hours with me trying different looks based on my inspiration photos and the vibe of my dress. I left so excited and knowing I had options I liked based on how I was feeling and the weather. On my wedding day she and her team were fantastic and executed flawlessly and made everyone comfortable on what was a hectic morning. My mother hadn't worn makeup since her wedding almost 40 years ago. My sister and maid of honor is also autistic with intellectual disabilities and had never worn makeup but wanted to be included (and look like a princess!) Carla and her team (special shoutout to makeup artist Mong!) were so patient and understanding and put them both at ease, which I appreciated so much. My other bridesmaids had a wonderful experience with makeup artist Nas as well. In terms of myself, I can say without question I've never felt more beautiful and glamorous but still myself than I did on my wedding day. Carla came with us to the church and fixed my veil that blew off during my first look and touched up everyone before we walked down the aisle. The look stayed the whole day and my hair held through the dip in our first dance into the after party. Going with Carla for hair and makeup was easily one of the best decisions I made in wedding planning and I cannot recommend her highly enough!”

And no matter how well a wedding is planned, there are always weird things that pop up as you get to the finish line and during the wedding itself--Tyra handled all of those so my hubby and I could enjoy the day. She had absolutely everything covered to the point that I actually felt a bit guilty about how little I did because, hello, that's my personality. As for Tyra's personality--well, she's the best. Super duper friendly, professional and like a good BFF, not afraid to give it to you straight. Highly, highly recommend. P.S.--This was a second wedding for my hubby and I, and it was a very small group. If you figure you don't need a planner because your wedding is going to be intimate, you're wrong. Trust me when I tell you that you still need someone to coordinate with the vendors, make sure the ceremony musicians aren't dead, talk you through a tuxedo crisis, and literally sprint to jump into your officiant's car, who is lost and driving around the mall looking for the venue. ;)”

So, I asked my fiancé at the time, if you know me then what you know about this place? He said, you like it because it has all those crystals and chandeliers! I instantly hit the contact us button. I began communicating with Pura who was very personable. I said OK let me go look at these reviews. I went on every page I knew that had reviews and they were 5-star no complaints. I said well let me book to go see it in person because pictures can be deceiving. We scheduled a tour of the event and when I tell you this place can't be touched with a 10 foot pole. I have not found a Venue yet that can TOP this one. From the time you walk in, to the ballrooms, the best dressing area and even the bathrooms are so clean you can eat off the food (not that you would but that's how clean and neat the place is). Pura thanks for all the phone messages day or night one thing for sure she was never too busy to get back with me. She was very accommodating. Farah the decor was gorgeous. Andrea thanks for pulling things together as the coordinator alongside Pura. Every time I visited; they made you feel welcomed. My family talked about the level of hospitality that you all provided at the rehearsal and wedding. They made sure all my vendors were in place to take the stress off of me on my wedding day. The Athenaeum is a beautifully preserved antebellum building, now serving as an art gallery. One of only two remaining examples of Neoclassical Greek Revival architecture in Alexandria, its exterior features an impressive portico supported by soaring Doric columns. Oversized windows bring natural light to the main gallery rooms, which boast 24-foot ceilings, wonderful woodwork, and exposed granite walls lined with rotating art exhibits. Your ceremony can be held in the sweet, private courtyard. This quaint, romantic space has a “secret garden” feel, sheltered from the street by high, vine-covered red brick walls. Please note wheelchair access is available only on the main floor. A/V equipment is available but limited. Viewing the Athenaeum The Athenaeum is available for viewing during gallery hours or by appointment. Gallery hours are Thursday-Sunday from 12:00pm-4:00pm. The Athenaeum is closed on holidays. Advance notice for viewing the Athenaeum is appreciated.

“We recently had our wedding at the Athenaeum in Old Town Alexandria, and it was a truly special occasion! The venue was just the right size for the wedding we wanted and the style made us think of the place we got engaged, on the Acropolis in Athens. The venue has a lovely indoor gallery space as well as a courtyard and we hat our ceremony outdoors and the reception indoors. A few things you should keep in mind if you are considering the Athenaeum: the space is on the small side, which we liked, but may not suffice for some weddings; you have to choose one of their recommended caterers or pay an added fee (though we were very happy with the caterers we went with and they knew exactly how the venue worked!); the venue does not include anything beyond the actual space, all vendors and services need to be hired separately. For us, this all worked out well and we felt our guests had a great time! The venue also makes for a beautiful backdrop for photos, just make sure to reserve the parking spaces in front of it. Our only minor issue was that the rental manager was not super responsive, but his coworker was, so it wasn't a problem in the end, I just didn't know who to reach out to at first. All in all, we are so happy we got to have our wedding at the Athenaeum! The art on display on the day was cheerful and modern and everything went according to plan. So excited to see more picture and relive the special day!”
