Alex and Kaitlyn met through a mutual friend named Jeanette Miller. Jeanette was a tennis teammate of Kaitlyn's at Xavier, and remained her friend after graduation. Just for fun, Kaitlyn went to Jeanette's company Christmas party at Point Blank, and met several people including one cute guy named Alex. Kaitlyn was dating someone else at the time, and Alex was too shy to reach out to her, so they carried on their separate lives as usual. Fast forward about a year, and Point Blank needed new signage for their stores. Jeanette contacted Kaitlyn for some freelance graphic design help, and quickly connected her with Alex who was handling all in-store marketing at the time. Now that he had her phone number, Alex started pursuing Kaitlyn, and she quickly realized that he was going to be a bigger part of her life than signage. The rest of the story is history! The proposal began with an envelope. Alex placed an envelope on Kaitlyn's refrigerator that said "DO NOT OPEN UNTIL 2/23/18." Tortured for two weeks, Kaitlyn stared at the envelope wondering what it was, and why she could not open it until a certain date. When 2/23/18 came around, she opened the envelope to find a sheet of paper with coordinates. This was the beginning of a scavenger hunt that led them all over downtown Cincinnati. Each clue led to a box with the next one, and every box had a puzzle piece. Finally, when the entire scavenger hunt was over, Kaitlyn put the puzzle together and read "Will You Marry Me?" She turned around to find Alex on a knee and happily said "yes!" Alex also arranged for their close friends and family to meet at Arnold's afterword, (where they had their first date,) so they celebrated with champagne and toasts! 🥂
