This beautiful modern love story started in classic fashion... on Hinge. Andy posted a picture of himself staring introspectively at the ocean, which he thought was a tasteful reimagining of the shirtless dating profile picture. One day he received a message from someone named Yifan, who somehow figured out that the picture was taken after a failed handstand attempt. When Andy asked Yifan how she knew, she messaged back, "I can see your faceprint in the sand." Andy had never felt more seen in his entire life. After a few dinners, an improv comedy show featuring Jason Mantzoukas and a spontaneous trip up to the Bay Area, Yifan and Andy deleted Hinge. If it were 2009, they would have changed their Facebook profile statuses to "In a Relationship." "I guess we're officially a thing now," Andy remarked. Things were going pretty smoothly for the new couple after a year together... but then the pandemic hit. While learning how to navigate around COVID-19 (yes, they were the people disinfecting groceries and leaving outside clothes in garbage bags by the door), Yifan moved into Andy's old, dusty 1 bedroom apartment in Palms that was affectionately nicknamed "The Murder Motel." After a crowded few months, Yifan proposed taking a road trip up to Sammamish, a suburb outside Seattle, to spend some time with her family. After several days attempting to convince Andy to leave the apartment, he relented and said, "Ok, we can go... but just for a few weeks and then we come back." Yifan and Andy stayed in Sammamish until March 2021. It was a glorious time defined by long stints in the great outdoors, family dinners, watching NBA Bubble basketball and bi-weekly Trader Joe's trips to take in manageable doses of civilization. However, despite the incredible experiences shared with Andy's future in-laws, the couple knew that they missed their friends and lives back in LA. It was time to make that 16.5 hour drive back home. Shortly after getting back to LA, Yifan and Andy found a less old and dusty 2 bedroom apartment in Larchmont/Koreatown. They reconnected with their friends at long last and started to remember what being functional human beings in society felt like. After a few months of social rehabilitation, whispers of marriage started to sprinkle their way into Yifan and Andy's day-to-day conversations. Andy took notes down in his iPhone when Yifan told him she was thinking about "a lab grown diamond that isn't too big (so not to get caught on clothing), a simple rose gold band, preferably under $500... honestly just get the thing off Etsy." Andy went with an option that was a slight step up and proposed to Yifan on the roof of their Larchmont/Koreatown apartment on November 13, 2021. He staged a rose ceremony inspired by their favorite trashy reality TV show, Bachelor in Paradise. "I guess we're officially a thing now... again," Andy remarked. Their next challenge: to plan an epic wedding night in LA that accurately represents the fun, sometimes outrageous, "what you see is what you get" type of love that they're signing up for in the long term. That's where you come in! And if you are currently reading this sentence, then the wedding will also be a celebration of the fact that you cared enough to make it through this preposterously long wall of text. We are so lucky to have you in our lives and can't wait for the big day!
