You could do this hike in sandals - it's that easy. 15 minutes to the top (and just 15 minutes from Grandfather!). The view is spectactular. This is a great place to bring a snack, take a seat, and take in the blue ridge mountains in all their glory.

Blowing rock is a great place to shop, eat, and hang out during the day. It's a cute little town just over 25 minutes from Grandfather mountain.
This is one of the more famous - and more challenging - hikes on the mountain. If you want to do this one, come prepared with a packed lunch, and a buddy to pick you up at the top (just a mere four-hour hike from the base) .

This 1.5-mile round-trip hike to the summit of Hawksbill Mountain has an amazing payoff with panoramic views of the canyon of Linville Gorge Wilderness Area - with the valley floor and Linville River 2,000 ft. below you. On a clear day, you can even see the skyline of Charlotte - about 90 miles away! The strenuous hike climbs about 700 ft. in elevation, so allow plenty of time.
