Wells and Tessa met back in February 2014 after being set up by Tessa’s mom, Alida, and Wendy Platten, a lifelong family friend of Wells’. Wendy and Alida worked together at the time (and are still friends to this day!). Wells was serving in the Army and had just returned from his first deployment. He was stationed in Colorado Springs at Ft. Carson and spent weekends with the Platten family to get off post. One day Wells asked Wendy if any of her friends had single daughters his age. With this the conspiring began. Tessa agreed to go on a date with Wells a few days later. In an attempt to impress Tessa, Wells took her to a steak house, not realizing she was a vegetarian. Luckily for Wells there was enough chemistry and Tessa kept going on dates with him- many of which ended up being food related. After nearly 6 years of dating, a second deployment, moving across the country together, a degree in Natural Resource Management, adopting two dogs and a million other little milestones, Tessa and Wells found themselves on vacation in Mexico. On a beautiful turquoise beach in Tulum, while enjoying some Piña Coladas, Wells suggested that the two take a picture and asked the waiter if he would mind doing the honors. Tessa could not figure out why Wells was trying to face toward her and kept turning him back toward the camera. Needless to say, when Wells got down on one knee it took Tessa by complete surprise...enough surprise that when he asked THE question, her response was “are you serious”? Of course the answer was “yes”! Since then the two have made it through job changes, another relocation, a global pandemic, planning, postponing and replanning a wedding and buying a house. They can’t wait to finally celebrate with their families and friends this September!
