We were ships passing in the night - Hayley teaching at the International Academy West Campus during the 2010-2011 school year, and Jake teaching at the same school the following year. We spent a few outings together with mutual colleagues and friends and didn't see each other for eight years. Throughout those eight years, we developed more mutual friends, but our paths didn't cross again until our friend Stephanie forced both our hands on New Year's Eve 2019, and the rest is history.
Thanks to a family friend and his dad's beautiful jewelry store, we went shopping "just to look" and came home with the perfect ring. The opposite of anything we'd ever thought of for an engagement ring, and so beautiful and unique, including two small sapphires - Hayley's September birthstone. We had to wait an entire excruciating week before Jake popped the question.
After ONE WHOLE WEEK, Jacob finally proposed. He had the most special day planned, where we did a "day date" at home, played some games, and then headed out for the night. We ate dinner in Royal Oak and visited places special to us in Ferndale and Royal Oak, where we had our first few dates and now have our first home. At sunset, Jacob drove to our beach out in Novi, where we first lived together. With Spanky Wank in tow, Jacob got down on one knee, and we watched the rest of the sunset as the Future Weavers.
