Swan's Market Old Oakland
The central depot for the first railroad linking California to the eastern states arrived in Oakland on November 8, 1869 at Broadway and 7th Street. Hotels, restaurants, barber shops, drug stores and other services for travelers sprang up in the surrounding streets, and (what we now refer to as ‘Old Oakland’) became one of the most dynamic and diverse neighborhoods in Oakland. Today, Swan’s Market is a popular destination in Oakland and is home to some of the City’s most popular restaurants.

Definitely Amani's top recommendation for a day trip. It's worth staying longer to spend a day touring wine country! And don't leave without stopping at Dean and DeLuca and Oxbow Market!
Oakland Museum of California
RESPECT: Hip-Hop Style & Wisdom on exhibit through August. The story of how Hip-Hop changed the world, starting from its roots on the streets, before rap, DJing, street art, breakin' (breakdancing), and street fashion launched into mainstream popular culture. There are also other exhibits, and a weekly Friday night food truck festival with music right out front. A favorite destination for locals.
Union Square, San Francisco
Great to just hang out, shopping, dining, etc. Get off at Powell Street Bart station...and Enjoy! And if you haven't done it, jump on the cable car at the bottom of Powell street and enjoy the ride!
Fisherman's Wharf/Ferry Building/Pier 39
Favorite destinations are the Ferry Building and Pier 39. Tons to do. Take the ferry from the wharf to Alcatraz. Watch the sea lions! Spend the day!

Alcatraz Island
Take a ferry from Pier 33 at Fisherman's Wharf over to Alcatraz for either a self or guided tour!
Golden Gate Bridge
If you're not scared of heights, walk across the Golden Gate Bridge. Breathtaking views of the SF Bay!
