Absolutely! If you want to visit and stay in SF while you're in town, do it! San Francisco is only a couple miles away from Oakland, separated by water and the Bay Bridge. You can get to Oakland and the wedding events via BART train or by car.
It's our version of a subway or metro train. Because the Bay Area can get congested with traffic, especially during rush hour and weekends, we recommend using it to save you time. BART has stops at both the Oakland and San Francisco airports. There is also a stop right outside our hotel choice, Hotel Shattuck (Downtown Berkeley Station) as well as our venue (Lake Merritt Station). You can look at routes and plan trips at BART.gov. If you're still confused (because we know, their site isn't easy to understand), reach out to us directly -- we ride the BART every day and are experts.
The Bay Area is a special place because we have close access to all types of terrains and activities. A couple top hits: - Wine Country is just an hour away! Let us know if you want winery recommendations for Sonoma or Napa. - Hiking in Marin County on Mount Tamalpais - Sightseeing, shopping and dining in San Francisco. - Stinson Beach in Marin County. Fair warning, the ocean will likely be extra chilly in November! - Carmel is a quaint seaside, artsy town that is a town hour drive away. Take the scenic route and drive along the coast on Highway 1. - Lake Tahoe is also a mini trek, but it's beautiful. - Yosemite National Park is a three hour drive away for the super adventurous.
Totally understand that it's hard to go out of town with the little ones. If you plan to bring them along, we can help you pick out childcare during the wedding. Just reach out to us!
We get it, it has a bad rep. We assure you, you're gonna be safe in our home and will see there's much more to the town than what the media has perceived it to be.
Eh, not quite. The Bay Area's standard is 68 degrees and partly foggy with a rule to always bring a light sweater. The weather can be mercurial enough to have heat waves unexpectedly though, so keep your eye on your weather app.
