Tony and I were set up on a blind date while in college at the University of Georgia. The date night was a Hawks game in Atlanta, which meant we had to spend over 3 hours on a bus talking to each other as strangers. Of course, we had no problem filling the time and even ignored the basketball game to continue our conversation. We spent the next couple of months coming up with any excuse to spend time together and slowly realized this was something special. Although we were both cautious initially about getting into a relationship, there was no denying how much we cared for each other. Neither of us was expecting to fall in love that night, but we are sure that that blind date turned out to be one of the most important nights of our lives.
During college, Tony and I made so many amazing memories on trips to visit each other's hometowns, mountain weekends, and, of course, Georgia football games. We also spent 9 months doing long distance (with a 12-hour time difference) while Tony studied abroad in Singapore. The friends we made both separate and together helped shape us as a couple. After Tony's senior year, he stuck around Athens to open Zombie Coffee and Donuts, which meant we were in the same place for my last year! After my graduation, we were both determined to live in the same city. I was taking a gap year before medical school and Tony was ready to move back to DC to continue his career. We spent this year exploring the city together and during this time, our relationship just grew stronger. Next came our hardest challenge yet, I decided to move back to Athens for medical school. Tony was incredibly supportive, and we decided to do long-distance once again. Although we knew it would be difficult, we were so in love we knew that our relationship was strong enough to survive this test. We used the distance to grow individually and truly appreciate the quality time we have together. In December of 2020, Tony pulled off a perfect surprise proposal at the place where we will have our reception. The best part was getting to share the excitement with our families. We cannot wait to get married and celebrate with all of our favorite people!
