First Date - Her Perspective

10/4/19

Jack & I met in 2012 during sophomore year of high school in math class. I remember sitting next to him because we were the only sophomores in a class full of juniors & seniors. I thought he was so funny but we didn't really talk outside of class. I ended up transferring high schools after that year & I didn’t hear from him for 7 years. Fast forward to 2019 and I had just moved back to Colorado after I graduated college. One random day, Jack added me on Snapchat (very romantic) & we slowly started talking. We eventually made plans to go on a date but I ended up canceling the day before. To my surprise, Jack asked me out again, and we ended up going on our first date on October 4, 2019. We went to a cute Italian restaurant & I remember being so nervous. What do we talk about?? How do we catch up on the last 7 years? What if I don’t recognize him because it’s been so long??? However, the date ended up being great and it was so easy to talk to him! We talked and laughed the whole night, and ended up getting McFlurries at McDonald's because we didn’t want the night to end. We had our first kiss in the McDonald's parking lot, and ever since then I've been head over heels for him. Who would’ve thought that the funny guy sitting next to me in math class would end up being the person I get to spend the rest of my life with :)

The Proposal - His Perspective

6/3/22

Proposing to Renee was one of the most exciting, yet stressful times of my life. I knew Renee was the one for me, and in September of 2021 I decided I was ready to ask her to marry me. Little did I know how much work (and money) goes into planning a proposal. The next few months were really stressful because I felt like I had to be incredibly sneaky so Renee wouldn't find out. I was constantly having conversations with Renee’s friends and family behind her back so they could help me plan the perfect proposal. Renee had told me that her best friend, Milani, was visiting from Atlanta in June and I knew that would be the perfect time to propose. I reached out to Milani and worked with her (and Renee’s brother, Rain) to set up a plan to go to Garden of the Gods and propose. By the time Milani arrived, I had the ring and the plan was all ready to go! The morning of, I tried relentlessly to get Renee to wear nice clothes; I told her we all wanted to take nice pictures when we got to the Garden of the Gods. No matter what I said, Renee didn’t care and decided to wear hiking clothes instead. Once we got there, there were heavy rain clouds and it was getting ready to pour on us so I knew we had to be quick. We followed a trail that took us to a secluded area with a nice scenic view. While Renee and I were taking pictures, I was working up the courage to propose. Just as I was about to ask, it started raining and hailing on us, so we quickly ran under a tree for cover. Renee wanted to go back to the car because we were getting drenched by the rain but I did everything I could to stall until the storm passed. At this point, we were all soaking wet and the rain still wasn't clearing up. Finally, I grabbed her hand and told her to step out from under the tree and into the rain with me. I walked us to where I wanted to ask her initially. She looked at me while holding back tears and asked, "are you doing this now?" and in response I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me.
