Getting to Telluride

We recommend flying into either Montrose Regional Airport (MTJ) or Telluride Regional Airport (TEX) and taking a shuttle to your lodging. The Montrose airport (MTJ) is the primary airport for Telluride, but you can also fly into Telluride (TEX) via Denver Air. From New York, United and American Airlines offer flights to MTJ and TEX with layovers in Chicago, Dallas, or Denver. Montrose is a scenic 65 mile, or 1.5 hour ride from Telluride. Ground transportation options from Montrose to Telluride and back include Telluride Express and Mountain Limo. Rental cars are available at TEX and MTJ airports, but you will not need a car while in Telluride.

Ground transportation service is available to and from all area airports (i.e. Telluride, Montrose, Grand Junction, Durango, Cortez and Gunnison) with door-to-door, shared-ride, and private accommodations. However, if you are flying into any airport other than Telluride or Montrose, we recommend that you arrange for a rental car. Shuttle services are very expensive from other airports. But once you are in Telluride, you will not need a rental car. When booking your airport shuttle transfers, make sure to request a SHARED RIDE instead of a private vehicle, unless you prefer otherwise. The rate is substantially lower.
