Monticello offers a unique glimpse into the life of one of the country's most influential founding fathers -- Thomas Jefferson. With its stunning grounds and beautiful architecture, Monticello makes a great day trip in Charlottesville.
Charlottesville is surrounded by dozens of wineries, cideries, and breweries. You can easily spend the day visiting them! One of our favorite places to go is the Bold Rock campus in Nellysford. The location is right in the mountains and is absolutely beautiful. If you're over in that neck of the woods, we suggest also visiting Devil's Backbone, Veritas Vineyards & Winery, Afton Vineyards, and Blue Mountain Brewery.
On the totally opposite side of Charlottesville is Lauren's favorite winery -- Merrie Mill. They have THE best charcuterie and rosé, plus such a fun and quirky atmosphere. Think Alice and Wonderland vibes! If you're over in that neck of the woods, we also recommend checking out Keswick Vineyards and Castle Hill Cider.
A visit to Charlottesville isn't complete without a stop at the Downtown Mall. A wonderful mix of boutique, artisan shops, restaurants, and bars, visitors can enjoy shopping, dining and entertainment along the brick-paved pedestrian area.
$ Bodo's is legendary in Charlottesville, and for good reason. Known as "The King of Bagels", this diner/delicatessen style bagel shop serves delicious sandwiches for a great price. We bet you'll return a second time before you leave the city.
$$ Visit the brewery where Travis and I work! Three Notch'd is the fastest growing brewery in Virginia, and is headquartered here in Charlottesville. They have a wide variety of beer on tap from IPAs to Fruited Wheats to Sours. They also have cocktails and wine -- so something for everybody. The burgers are great and the atmosphere can't be beat. One of the most popular watering holes in the city.
