Travel Note
Travel between Montalcino and the arrival cities of Florence and Rome can be managed by rental car, public transit, or by arranging private transportation. Rental Car Be sure to check TripAdvisor reviews before renting a car from smaller, local rental agencies in Italy. Otherwise, all of the major rental car companies (e.g. Hertz, Avis, Enterprise, Europcar) should be available. Public Transit There is no train station in Montalcino, so if you are choosing to arrive by public transit you will have to either travel by bus or a combination of train/bus. Google Maps and rome2rio.com are good resources to check options, schedules, and fares for public transit. Be sure to check schedules and timetables closely as they can vary between weekdays and weekends. Private Transit/Taxi Door-to-door private transit or taxis can also be arranged, but prices/fares vary widely. There is no Uber or other ridesharing service throughout Tuscany, including Montalcino.
