HER VERSION: It was Valentine's Day, but I helped take my friend's shift that day at the optometry office even though I no longer worked there. Scott came in as a patient, and I remember him wearing a hoodie and casual sandals. He found out that his optometrist went to the same optometry school as his sister, Tina. He took a selfie with her, and I remember thinking, "This guy's kinda weird..." After his check-up, the optician started to assist him with choosing new frames. Meanwhile, an older lady walked into the store and asked for help with her broken frames. Since I did not have the credential to fix glasses, I offered to switch with the optician so that she can help the lady instead. TO CLARIFY, I was not making a move on Scott, and neither did I think anything of him at that moment. It was a busy Saturday afternoon and I remember thinking, "Man this guy sure has a lot to talk about... please hurry up and pick something!!" After browsing through our (very small) selection of men frames, he insisted that he wanted to look at our online catalog. At this point, I was getting impatient and just wanted him to pick it. He eventually picked out three frames that looked exactly like the one he had on his face. I helped him process his payment and told him that someone from the office will call him once the glasses are ready. And then, he just... stood there. And waited. And looked around. Blankly. I tried to make it clear (once again) that he was done so I said, "Bye! See you later!" then realizing that I actually don't work there anymore, so I corrected myself and said, "Actually, I guess we won't see each other anymore." To which he responded with, "Well, we can if you want to get lunch some time!" I felt my face flush red as I typed my number on his phone, not knowing what that would have led to in the future - us becoming a family.
HIS VERSION: It's Valentine's day and there was some empty appointment spots at Taraval Eye Care. I was choosing my glasses with the help of an older lady and out of nowhere this beautiful young lady came and asked if she could help me instead and have the older lady help out another client. At first thought nothing of this and went along with it. But I couldn't help but think this girl was interested in me in the back of my mind. The selection of glasses at the optometrist was slim and I decided to choose a pair from their online selection. Susanna and I were both behind the receptionist counter looking at glasses sitting side by side when she offered me a home-baked cookie she made the day before. That was the turning point and I was like, "damn, this girl is definitely interested and she can cook!". I decided I had to make a move but all her other co-workers were lingering around and decided to wait until they left. But they weren't leaving so I just decided to go for it. The conversation went something like this: "Okay, is there anything else I need to finalize for my glasses" "Nope, you're good to go! Well, I guess I'll never see you again since this is my last day here" "We could see each other again, how about we go out and grab some dinner? What's your number?" *shove my phone in her face* Luckily for me, she gave me her number and I walked away with the biggest smile on my face.
When Scott first thought about proposing, he was obsessed with finding the perfect diamond. After lots of late nights, he finally found a stone that had the clarity, color, and carat he was looking for. He bought the ring, and Susanna almost found out because he could't contain his excitement. Scott wanted to ask Susanna's mom for permission first before he proposes, so he asked Susanna's brother, David, to help set up a time to get dim sum together. Scott showed up at the restaurant early to wait in line, wearing a dress shirt buttoned all the way up, nervously gripping a bouquet of flowers, sweat pits evidently showing through. With the help of David to translate between English and Chinese, Susanna's mom gave Scott her blessing. Scott has the ring now, but it has a 30 day return window, which means he must propose within 30 days just in case Susanna doesn't like the style and needs to exchange it. He remembered certain hints that Susanna gave, and knew he needed a plan that was not very obvious since he knew Susanna can figure it out easily. He decided to propose at Fort Funston, which is a trail where he and Susanna take their dog for walks on weekends. The morning of, Susanna noticed that Scott had a very nicely ironed shirt tucked into his pants. She questioned this abnormal fashion choice, given that Scott usually prioritizes comfort over style. Scott defended that since they were going to eat sushi after, he wanted to dress nicely. He urged Susanna to change into something other than her usual yoga pants, but she didn't see the logic in dressing nicely to go walk the dog since they can come home to change before getting sushi. When they arrived, Randy the photographer wasn't ready yet, so Scott asked Susanna to take some awkward selfies. With the OK from Randy, Scott told a joke, then knelt down on one knee and proposed to Susanna. He might have forgotten some rehearsed lines, but she was too nervous to hear what he was saying anyways!
