Hands down the best ramen and fancy, fun cocktails. Small and walk-in only, but worth it!
One of the best bagel places in New York!
The G.O.A.T. of NYC museums - make sure to check out the rooftop exhibit for great views and take a stroll through Central Park before/after!
If you are stopping by Times Square, make sure to swing by Los Tacos No. 1 - best tacos in Midtown and maybe anywhere!
Cookies! Fun fact: people frequently send these instead of flowers to Broadway performers. Slightly salted on top, not a bad choice in the whole store.
Afghan restaurant that's so good that some of our vegetarian friends make a meat exception for this place. Get the Kabuli Palaw with Lamb with the sauce all over it. The rice will change your life.
Like the Met's younger, cooler sister - check this place out for amazing modern art and equally amazing views of the West Side!
OUR FIRST DATE! Great beer, chill vibes - best bar anywhere near Times Square.
Since Broadway is currently closed, come here to hear Broadway and Disney classics (and a lot of Billy Joel) at this piano bar where you can make requests either to hear whoever is playing that night sing your favorites, or for you to get up and sing the song yourself with live accompaniment. Stop by Kettle of Fish right next door before or after to shoot darts in a camping-themed dive.
Possibly the best stand-up comedy club in the world. Any time you go you run the risk of having some super-famous comedian pop in unannounced for a 10-minute set to try out new material, especially on weeknights. The comedians you've never heard of are always the funniest on the bill, and you'll discover they have an excellent special that comes out 6 months after you discovered them at Comedy Cellar. Check their website for reservations as soon as possible if you're interested, they always sell out. They have 2 other clubs on the same block, Village Underground and Fat Black Pussycat where you can see the same comedians if the main room is sold out.
Believe it or not, the best cheesecake in New York is at a Greek restaurant in Chinatown with no signage. This is possibly our favorite restaurant in the city. They do not take reservations, but you can put your name in then explore the area. We recommend the Lamb Frikasse, Lemon Potatoes, at least one order of Tzatziki to start, and the cheesecake. Save some of the bread from the Tzatziki to soak up the sauce from the Lamb. We've gone here for more than one birthday dinner and can't imagine ever getting sick of it.
The oldest continuously operated tavern in the US. Or so they say. They serve two things: light and dark. You have to order 2 beers for $5 at a time because they refuse to wait to let the foam subside before serving it, but you're gonna love it. They also have surprisingly good fries. If you watch Saturday Night Live you'll probably recognize this from the intro since several cast members have done their photoshoots there. Is it kinda cheesy? Yes. Are you gonna love it? Also yes. Be prepared to make friends...you'll probably be sat next to someone you don't know at a huge table.
Great brewery with a very nice rooftop deck right by the water. Look for the colorful stained glass water tower.
One of the best beer bars in the country. Very welcoming, surprisingly classy feel, but without getting pretentious. Stop by McCarren Park before or afterwards. Note: the bathrooms are downstairs, so this is not particularly accessible.
One of the best Italian restaurants in New York. Innovative takes on familiar dishes. Order whatever you want, but whenever I order something other than the strozzapreti with rabbit ragu I instantly regret it. The focaccia is also amazing.
Excellent old fashioned donut shop. They specialize in old fashioned and sour cream donuts. If you've never had a sour cream donut, they don't taste like sour cream, but they have a really interesting crunchy outside to cakey inside texture and this place nails the style to a T. You're best off ordering more basic styles of donuts here, since we'll have some more exotic donuts at the brunch on Sunday.
Best slice in Greenpoint. Grab a slice or two and check out Transmitter Park, right on the water. The views are pretty amazing.
Vegan friendly bakery right by the water in Greenpoint.
Amazing weekly outdoor food festival on Saturdays! Excellent food choices right by the water with great views of manhattan. It can get pretty crowded but it's worth it for the food and the views.
Extremely divey, extremely fun bowling alley. You will not shoot 300 here because the lanes are all wonky in their own way but if you don't take your game too seriously we promise you'll have a blast. They also have live music in a back room sometimes, so check the schedule.
Amazing female-owned brewery that just opened by McCarren Park. Really fun space indoors, lots of outdoor seating, and extremely friendly service.
Check out this multi-vendor market in Dumbo for great food and some of the best views around! We suggest heading straight up to the rooftop, where you can just look at the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridge views and/or grab some sandwiches or pizza with a designated outdoor area.
Take a walk on the Brooklyn Heights Promenade and get some of the best views of Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty. Take the time to go down underneath to the Piers and check out Brooklyn Bridge Park Pier 3!
Great wood-fired pizza, great vibes, a Brooklyn classic. There will be cheeses you've never heard of on the menu (they are probably a form of mozzarella). The N'duja is VERY spicy, so be careful with it. High recommend on the original pie and putting a little bit of chili oil on it.
One of the best breweries in the country with a very classy but unpretentious tasting room. They do every style of beer well, from crisp lagers to Brooklyn-style IPAs to barrel aged sours. High, high recommend.
Our personal favorite brewery in New York! Comic book inspired can art, excellent beer, and friendly, fun staff. We will be serving (among other things) KCBC's Superhero Sidekicks IPA at the wedding. High recommend on the...well...anything they serve. :-)
Right next to Roberta's Pizza, this is a music/standup venue/bar in an old converted coffin factory. They really lean in with their list of "cocktails to die for." In short, this is maybe the most Brooklyn that anything has ever Brooklyned. Fun fact: Jamie lost a bet to Jeremy and the stakes were that she now has to perform a 3 minute stand-up set for their Wednesday night open mic amateur stand-up night. Details and invitations to come.
We love this market - we always grab food here before catching a movie at Alamo on the fourth floor! The classiest basement food stalls you'll ever see - we recommend Pierogi Boys, Mr. Lin, and Katz's Deli (not for nothing, much easier to grab some excellent pastrami here than at the original Katz's location). Side bonus - watch people lose their minds checking out at Trader Joe's while you wait for your food.
This vegetarian-friendly Israeli tapas restaurant is unique and incredible! Everything is excellent, but high recommends on the ricotta and honey and the hummus masabaha with chicken (it's chicken over warm hummus with unbelievable pita bread).
This upscale latin restaurant puts a fun twist on familiar dishes. Anything with duck (i.e the duck nachos, the duck confit tacos) is excellent, the shrimp tacos with smashed black beans are to die for, and whatever you do, DO NOT SKIP THE GRINGO CHURROS. Jamie hates it when people say "they melt in your mouth," but if someone were to say that, they would not be wrong ;-)
Stroll through Fort Greene Park, then continue down our favorite scenic street in the neighborhood, Willoughby Avenue, to this adorable sidewalk wine bar.
Best cheese pizza/slice shop in Fort Greene. Something about the cheese is unbelievable. If you're gonna get only one slice of pizza in New York, you'll be extremely happy with this one.
The cutest lil' cocktail bar in Brooklyn - feels like a speakeasy with an unmarked outside with amazing cocktails and a cute backyard!
Can't go to NY/BK without trying Ample Hills! High recommend on Ooey Gooey and Oatmeal Lace flavors. There are several locations, including in DeKalb Market, Gowanus, and Dumbo, but we recommend the OG Prospect Heights location for cute factor!
Jamie's favorite museum!
We used to live down the street from this spot and it has been one of our favorite sit-down, fancy-pizza places for years. Pro tip: order the garlic bread and add mozzarella, then get the prosciutto and artichoke pizza but have them make it with red sauce. This area of Crown Heights has TONS of stuff all along Franklin Avenue.
This is probably our favorite beer bar in New York (we used to live 2 blocks away)! Great draft list and can selection, super friendly staff, beautiful little back yard, and fun murals on the walls that are updated every few months. While the food menu is only about 5 items, the knockwurst and truffle cheddar soft pretzel are delicious!
Our favorite new restaurant! Great Korean food on 5th Avenue in Park Slope, one of the best streets to mosey down and stop in at whatever hits your fancy while you walk!
The best laid back bar (with surprisingly great food) at the south-west end of Prospect Park. Stop in after walking through Prospect Park!
Jamie just really likes this bar, okay? One time during Pokemon Go! fever, she saw people freak out over a Squirtle in the bathtub garden in the backyard.
Amazing rum bar with the best cocktails in town and an amazing outdoor space - great food pop ups too!
We walked all the way here from halfway across Brooklyn in 95 degree heat to get a slice of key lime pie as one of our first dates. It's a pie shop on the water facing the statue of liberty. It's a little hard to get to but the tart pies and equally tart service make for a memorable experience. If you're secure in your footing, eat the pie on the rocky "cliffs" facing Ellis Island.
Listen, are we recommending you go into deep Brooklyn/Queens just for some food truck snacks and a laid back outdoor vibe? Absolutely yes. We looked at getting married here! Great food, great music, great drinks, great vibes (and dog friendly!). Long live Nowadays.
They've got a few locations, but we used to grab bagels here and they are the best! Stick around and mosey through Astoria!
