Chicago is an amazing Midwest city full of gorgeous waterways framing a shimmering skyline. We've spent so much time getting to know each other along the Riverwalk and Lakeshore. Chicago from the water is an essential way to see this special place. Be sure to take the Architecture Tour while you're in town!
On top of trains, the L, taxis, Lyfts, and Pedicabs, one unique transportation option during a Chicago summer are the water taxis. You can buy tickets online or by app, and travel between Michigan Ave, the Riverwalk, and Chinatown. Keep in mind that one ticket equals one trip between stops, not the full trip!
For almost two years, Megan lived just half a block from the stunning and blossoming Chicago Riverwalk. Steve and Megan found themselves lost in conversation each week with a river as background. Make sure to stroll down amongst the art, music, food, and drinks of the daily Riverwalk celebration!
One of the most breathtaking views in Chicago, Cindy's offers a rooftop overlooking stunning flashes of green from Millenium Park, blue from Lake Michigan, and a shimmering skyline bookend. Grab a bite and a drink on the terrace, or just pop up for a quick look!
Shedd Aquarium is surely a fun spot for all families. The lakefront just east of Shedd between the Aquarium and the Planetarium offers one of the most memorable vistas, with the lake framed by Chicago's legendary skyline. An essential spot to take in this city!
Navy Pier will attract nearly every tourist in Chicago during the summer. Be prepared for crowds, but there are some wonderful gems. Navy Pier has a new enormous Ferris wheel, and the summer heat can be escaped in the tranquil crystal Gardens, or you can see world-class shows such as The Shakespeare Theater. There are lots of ways to get on Lake Michigan, including the dinner cruises of Odyssey Cruises and the speed boat tours as well.
The "Cloud Gate' in Millenium Park is locally called "The Bean". From afar, it looks like a tourist trap sculpture to skip. As you approach, however, childish enjoyment wells up as multiple funhouse mirror images of yourself slowly emerge from the crowd. As you reach the west side of the Bean, the full Chicago skyline wraps around you for one last irresistible selfie.
Chicago helped birth improv. Depending on the who you are, that may be a point of pride or shame! But if you're up for brilliant nerdy fun, check out the Improved Shakespeare Company iO, or the more political spin at Second City!
On Saturday night, we're hoping to join some friends along Lake Michigan with the gorgeous skyline as backdrop. Two of Megan and Steve's favorite musicians will be playing and we'll be in the GA area in front of the stage!
It may be quite loud and the beaches will be packed during our wedding weekend. The Air and Water Show is quite the spectacle for kids and kid-like adults! Folks gather early in the AM to see ships and planes buzz the city.
