Megan and Steve first officially met on December 31, 2015 at dinner with a mutual friend before a night of New Year's Eve festivities. While Megan had been to a few parties that Steve had hosted, the two had never had much of a chance to talk. On New Year's Eve, Megan was especially amused when Steve made a second entrance into the restaurant in order to imitate a table of screaming girls sitting next to them. Throughout the night of dancing and having drinks at Bordel Cocktail Bar, Megan and Steve found they had a connection. Their mutual friend Tiffani helped to move the connection along by asking each what they thought of the other:) When Steve made a bet that if Megan didn't kiss him at midnight she would have to buy him a steak dinner at Boeufhaus, she knew that she had met someone special. They did kiss and Steve took Megan to their first date at Boefhaus the following week. They bonded over short rib beignets, a love of travel and literature, and a general concern for humanity. The rest is history.

The day after Thanksgiving, Steve and Megan went on a hike with Megan's parents, brother, sister-in-law, niece, and nephew at Montpelier, James Madison's home in Virginia. Near the end of the hike, Steve ran ahead with Megan's niece and nephew. As the rest of the group caught up, Megan's nephew Ezra said "Steve dropped his airpods-we are looking for them!" The group all started looking carefully through the leaves, in the hope of finding the "lost" airpods, when Steve found something blue and velvet on the ground. It turned out to be a ring box, and when he opened it up, he gave an amazing speech about his reasons for wanting to marry Megan. Megan was having an out-of-body experience during this moment so forgets some details of this speech, but when Steve said "Will you marry me", Megan quickly said "Yes!" They enjoyed the rest of their hike and stopped at a local winery to celebrate on their way back to her brother's house.
