I always wondered what kind of man you would marry, but once you introduced Charles to me, and as I have continued to observe you two together, it gives me continuous joy that you are in good hands and so is he. I have observed how he calms you down when you get anxious and how he shows up for you whenever you are sad or stressed. He truly brings out the softness in you. I have observed how he has provided for you in every way that he could, and most important I have seen how he has led you spiritually and drawn you closer to our Lord Jesus Christ. "Somai and I met during our first corporate jobs out of college. It wasn't a good experience, but having Somai there was the one good thing that came out of it. We would talk for hours and explore downtown Bethesda together, and that was the beginning of the purest friendship I've ever had. I feel so privileged to have witnessed Somai in various stages of life. We've cried, laughed, danced, and shared so many celebrations and milestones, as well as trials and difficulties, as is the nature of life. I can truly say she is like a sister to me. When Charles entered Somai's life, I was fortunate enough to witness their relationship from the beginning. "I met Somai twelve years ago during my first year in the U.S., where we both lived in Valdosta, Georgia, for undergrad. Our paths crossed through family connections—our fathers are longtime friends and business partners. We lived just steps from each other, and though she was closer to my sister at first, once I arrived, we quickly became inseparable—more like sisters than friends. We shared so many memories during those early years that I continue to cherish. Seeing Somai with Charles reminds me that life (through Christ) leads us to where we need to be. Charles has been her rock, embodying the kindness and stability she’s always desired. It’s wonderful to see her with someone who values and uplifts her. Here, I am reminded of kintsukuroi, the Japanese art of mending pottery with gold, creating something even more unique and beautiful. It is not so much about brokenness as it is about how life’s experiences come together to create the richness and strength of who we are and who we become together. "I met Charles once I popped out my mother’s womb, my fondest childhood memory was us watching anime in his room late at night and watching anime on Saturday mornings with waffles after playing Call of Duty all night they day before. Since he is grown up now, I’m happy to see him as a grown man pursing a love life I wish to pursue I met Somai on Fourth of July in 2021. She was quiet, but asked subvert questions about my outlook towards life. At first I was pretty annoyed and felt pretty judged but as time went on and I saw her more and had more talks with her, I realized it was a front to protect her sweet loving raw energy. Going to her house in Lagos and seeing her relatives also gave me more insight on the type of family she comes from, and all I can say is that I am happy to know her as much as I do and I can’t wait to know her more. "I met Charles while we were both pursuing our undergraduate degrees at the University of Oklahoma. What I quickly learned from observing Charles is that he cares about people—regardless of whether that person can help Charles or not. We became friends and then brothers. Charles is a strong-minded person, but he’s also willing to adapt his thinking based on the circumstance—something that I admire about him. I was so excited to meet Somai because I knew how much she meant to Charles. Within ten minutes of speaking with Somai, I realized why Charles loved her: caring, confident, and funny. Somai exhibited so many traits that Charles (and frankly anyone) should appreciate. Seeing Charles and Somai together as a couple is even better than seeing them individually.
