Kane and I met when we both began working at the same company. First impressions mean nothing to us since we both confessed we have NO idea of actually being introduced to one another! We both imagine we met on my “you’ve just been hired” tour and that it could have been in passing. All I remember is Kane coming to the office with questions and I had no idea how to answer them cause I was new. We became friends sorta on accident because we each worked in different departments. At the time Kane worked with my brother and his now fiancé and almost every day we would eat lunch together the four of us. It quickly became the most favorite part of my day. We spent so much time together that Kane became one of my closest and most trusted friends before anything ever sparked between us. Once we decided to go all in it was super easy to do so because we already knew each other so well from the year of being friends.
Before we we started officially dating the four of us at work (Kane, Me, Jordan, & Jamie) would hang out all the time outside of work. It wasn't uncommon for us to do couple things but as friends only. Last year my birthday fell on a weekday so after work the four of us went to see a movie. Kane paid for my ticket claiming it was a 'birthday present' and paid for my dinner afterwards also telling me it was part of the present. I remember sitting in the movie theater so close that our shoulders were touching. I had my hand tucked under my arm and the whole time I was waiting for him to hold my hand but he never did. I realized much later that night it was a 'not date' and that I wanted to do that for the rest of my life. Now, one of our favorite things to do is go see movies together.
When Kane and I make plans it is always very vague. Usually it's us going for a walk at the park or running some errands followed by dinner. And it is never planned out by the hour. The week leading up to the proposal Kane asked me four times in five days about our plans to go hike in the morning, followed by lunch, and then hanging out at his house afterwards. I knew what was happening by ask number 3. That entire week my mom asked me to do our our nails at home. I kept putting it off and eventually my best friend texted me and asked me to get my nails done with her on Sunday night. Not even an hour later my dad come downstairs to my room and asked me to take mom to get her nails done. Immediately I texted the group chat of my 3 best friends CERTAIN the proposal was happening. They promptly talked me right out of it. Tuesday came around so I put on a tiny bit of makeup and my workout clothes unsure of if I was right or not. Kane came to my door in jeans and gel in his hair and I instantly knew I was right. He drove us to the most beautiful covered bridge and took me across it to the end, paused a bit, and kept going. We hiked the stairs to the waterfall and sat at a bench that was a good bit away from any person listening. We sat there for maybe 3 minutes... and then he got up and asked if I was ready to go back down to the car. I laughed my nerves away and said yes. As we hike back down the stairs to cross the bridge Kane starts to fall behind me. At the other side of the bridge I see a few people so I slowed down enough for Kane to catch up. As I begin to walk Kane grabs my hand and calls my name. I turn around and he is on his knee with the sweetest smile. All I remember was the satisfaction that I knew him well enough to know it was coming, but shocked that he STILL managed to surprise me. As we walk down to the end of the bridge two people start waving and I see Kane's sister, Fynley taking photos! I'm still in shocked and awe that I'm marrying the man of my dreams so this all feels like a blur. Kane commented on the fact that I didn't burst into tears and I told him "Just wait. It's coming." Sure enough, after we took some pictures and decided to get lunch, I'm staring at the menu and big fat tears start rolling down my face. For the rest of the day I couldn't stop crying from joy. That evening we had the most wonderful engagement party with both of our immediate families. It was so much fun to laugh and celebrate with the people we love the most!
