While working at sister restaurants in Boulder, the company took a field trip to Leopold Brothers Distillery in Denver. Throughout the distillery tour we noticed each other were very engaged and asked numerous questions. Shelby would then come sit at the bar in which Scott was working at Oak at Fourteenth for the next couple weeks. One night, Scott didn't have to stay and close and got some courage to ask Shelby to grab a drink at another bar in town. A few drinks later, Scott couldn't ride his bike home and asked Shelby for a ride. It ended with a good night smooch and a first date was scheduled for the next afternoon. The following day, Halloween, the two of us spent almost the next 30 hours together and the rest can be said as history!!
It had been almost 3.5 years together when the question was asked. We had just moved back to Colorado from KC the day prior and were in limbo before we flew out to Europe for our 15 day adventure which had been postponed due to COVID in 2020. Scott knew it would be cliche or actually he didn't know what would be the perfect moment in Europe so wanted to make sure that the Europe trip was a celebration and not stressful, "When will the perfect moment be" trip. We were staying at Shelby's dads house and went on a hike across the street which we've been on before. At the top, with the mountians and the trees and the rocks, we crouched down to take a selfie with Miss Bentley. Scott stayed down on 1 knee as Shelby stood up and the question "Miss Shelby Shearon, would you like to become Mrs. Shelby Ruggiero" was asked!
