Even though we know you'll be coming for our wedding, we hope you take this opportunity and make a trip out of it! Here's what we think you should do:
Come a few days early. Don't underestimate the jet lag! The time difference and being in another country will get to you. We recommend flying in during the weekend if possible or Tuesday AM, July 26 the latest.
Cities and regions, besides Cascais, to check out if you have extra time:
- Lisbon for city sight-seeing. You can do this in a day or two and it's where you'll be flying into, so this is an easy one to add.
- Sintra for amazing castles (we almost had our wedding here)! It's not too far from Cascais, so you can do this in a day.
- Porto if you have a few more days. We've never been, but it's known for Douro Valley, their wine region. This is a plane ride away.
- Algarve region south of Portugal if you have a few more days. We HIGHLY recommend for the beaches. It's a 3 hour train or car ride from Lisbon.
This is a five-star hotel in Cascais that we've stayed at that has one of the best golf courses around! The groom says so himself. This is good for anyone wanting to stay extra days and want a resort feel in the town of Cascais. Close enough to beaches and the town center but a little more remote, so you'll need to take a five min uber to places.
Praça do Comércio
Lisboa, Lisboa 1100-148, Portugal
Praça do Comércio is an area in Lisbon. It's a touristy spot for anyone who is visiting Lisbon for the first time. Good picture opportunities for typical Portuguese sight-seeing.
Cais do Sodré
Rua da Cintura do Porto de Lisboa, Lisboa, Lisboa 1249-249, Portugal, +351 21 042 2400
This is the train station from Lisbon to Cascais or Estoril, so if you're in Lisbon for a few days and you want to come to the wedding area, you can take the train. It's super easy and affordable, Cascais/Estoril are about 35 mins from Lisbon. The link there should be helpful if you want to do this.
Sintra is a beautiful town full of castles and mountain views. We almost had our wedding here! It has fairytale vibes and you can visit the castles. We visited Pena Palace a few years ago and it was awesome. It's about a 20 min ride from Cascais and 30 mins from Lisbon. If coming from Lisbon you can take the train from Rossio train station.
Miradouro de Santa Luzia
largo santa luiza, Lisbon, Lisbon 1100-487, Portugal
Beautiful scenery of Lisbon. There's a roof terrace there, Portas do Sol, for drinks and lots of restaurants nearby. This is an older part of Lisbon, Alfama (listed here too) -- very charming and romantic.
Samambaia - Bar d' A Voz do Operário
13 Rua da Voz do Operário, Lisboa, Lisboa 1100-621, Portugal, +351 914 312 355
Samambaia: Brazilian restaurant we had lunch at. Cute place, good vibes, nice area in Lisbon!
Italian restaurant in the center of Cascais that has gluten-free pasta for my GF gfs!
Praia do Guincho
Cascais, Lisbon 2750, Portugal
This is the beach we had our engagement shoot at with our lovely wedding photographer, Adriana Morais. It's so beautiful! Since we'll be mostly attending city beaches, we recommend visiting this beach for an authentic, unspoiled Portugal beach experience. Although, it's known for being windy!
Arriba Restaurant
Estrada Guincho, Edifício Arriba, Cascais, 2750-642, Portugal
AMAZING sea views. If you want to have a special dinner during your trip, this is the place to go. This was actually one of our wedding venue options and we loved it.
Alfama
Lisbon, Lisbon 1100, Portugal
This is a general area in Lisbon's city that is older but so beautiful. It is great for pictures and the cutest area to spend the day if it's you first time visiting.
