Eagles Mere is in the Allegheny Mountains in North Central Pennsylvania, about 3 hours by car from Philadelphia, 3.5 from NYC, and 9 from Michigan. Ashley's maternal family has been spending summers here since the 1940s, and her parents are now permanent residents. Known as "the town that time forgot," Eagles Mere retains its historic charm and scenic character, while modern amenities like wifi and cell phone signals are creeping into the village as well. (Note, though, that when you are on the mountaintop, you are not guaranteed to have a cell signal!) We hope you'll be able to find your way here to celebrate with us in a truly beautiful place, and we hope that those who can will stay an extra few days and enjoy the town and its environs! But we know the logistics of getting and staying here are more complex than your average wedding, so please know that we will understand completely if you're not able to attend. Because of its rural location, Sullivan County (home to Eagles Mere) has a lower risk of COVID infection rate. However, we will of course be monitoring carefully and keeping everyone apprised of any changes that may need to happen due to the pandemic. As of June 23, Sullivan County has a "moderate" transmission rate per the CDC, in contrast to the "high" transmission levels almost everywhere we and our guests are traveling from. We will continue monitoring this rate and let you know if anything changes. Because we both have family and friends who are at higher risk, vaccinations are required of all guests who are medically able to receive the vaccine. Although the current CDC guidance for those 50 and over is to have 2 boosters, we are comfortable with regular vaccine plus one booster for all guests regardless of age. We also strongly recommend testing within 48 hours of the wedding--ideally, morning of. Each household in the US can request free rapid tests via the US Postal Service (usps.com) and we suggest that all guests plan to bring one or two with them to Eagles Mere. Although indoor masking is not currently required at the Club, we will have KF94 masks available at the venue for anyone who might want to wear one, and will let you know if regulations around masking change between now and July 16. If you are not being vaccinated as a matter of personal choice, we will miss you, but ask that you help keep our more vulnerable loved ones safe by not attending.
Please see the Travel tab above for information about transportation and lodging. The short version: book lodging early, either in a reserved room at the Pavilion at the Park in Laporte, or in a house via VRBO or Air B&B.
We've listed recommended restaurants on the "Things to Do" page. If you're renting a house, though, you will probably want to bring in some groceries. There is a small convenience store, the Eagles Mere Country Store, at the center of town, with larger grocery stores in surrounding areas. Hurley's Fresh Market (121 W Main St, Dushore, PA 18614) is about 20 minutes away, and Weis Market (1272 E Penn St, Muncy, PA 17756), which has a bigger selection, is 30 minutes. Both of these places are also near state stores where you can purchase liquor, and the Weis also carries beer and wine in its cafe area. (Blue laws in Pennsylvania are...a lot.) If your trip here passes through Williamsport, you might want to stop off at Wegmans (201 Williams St, Williamsport, PA, 17701) for the widest selection (and the best bagels).
The reception will be held at the Eagles Mere Country Club: https://www.eaglesmerecc.com/ Parking is available and the venue is accessible. Weekly visitor memberships are available for those who might be interested in golfing during the weekend; call (570) 525-3475 for more information.
The Club does not permit shorts or jeans in the dining room. Other than those exclusions, please wear whatever makes you feel celebratory!
Eagles Mere is a great place for kids of all ages! Due to space constraints at the venue, we are unfortunately only able to accommodate our and our siblings' children at the wedding itself. We have plenty of reliable teenage cousins and friends who are experienced babysitters, so if you will be bringing a child who will need an older kid around on Saturday, just let Ashley know and we'll be happy to make arrangements pending your approval!
At this point, Ashley has grudgingly acknowledged that Francis would hate this activity as much as Sean would hate having to deal with him at the wedding, so she has given in. But don't think she isn't mad about it.
