UGA's Historic North Campus is home to the famous Arches, Chapel and Chapel bell, and Sanford stadium. Directly across the street from downtown Athens - it's a beautiful place to stroll through and experience some of the university's campus highlights.
Downtown Athens
Downtown is the heart of Athens! Full of shops, restaurants, bars, and live music venues - there's something for everyone both by day and night. Downtown is most famous for it's music scene, being home to favorites like R.E.M, Widespread Panic, and The B-52's!
Creature Comforts Downtown Taproom and Brewery
For our beer lovers - we recommend Creature Comforts Brewery. Located in downtown Athens, they offer year-round and seasonal selections. Get your pour in the taproom or in their beautiful outdoor patio area!
State Botanical Garden of Georgia
Athens is home to Georgia's official botanical garden and has 313 acres of nature to enjoy year-round! We recommend starting in the visitor center and then heading off to explore their beautiful themed gardens.
Bear Hollow Zoo
Bear Hollow Zoo is one of Alex's favorite places in Athens. Located within Memorial Park, Bear Hollow is home to a variety of non-releasable Georgia native wildlife residents - including black bears, white-tailed deer, owls, and more. There are also several trail options by the zoo, including the 1.25 mile Birchmore Trail which features the Great Wall of Happy Hollow - built solely by local legend Fred Birchmore in his 70s.
JINYA Ramen Bar - Athens
We love Jinya! It's our go-to restaurant for special occasions. We recommend trying the Jinya buns and the Spicy Umami Miso ramen. Whatever you order though, it's delicious!
Mama's Boy Restaurant
A local hot spot for breakfast and lunch! Mama's Boy is a locally owned and run restaurant that serves southern style dishes with a modern twist. A few favorites include their "Chocolate Cake for Breakfast", Vegetable & Potato Hash, and signature biscuits!
DePalma's Italian Cafe
Another Athens local tradition is DePalma's Italian Cafe. They have a hand-picked wine list, classic Italian dishes, and three locations!
The Grill
The Grill! 50's diner nostalgia with a true Athens flair, featuring huge burgers, thick milkshakes, and surprising vegan and vegetarian options. The Grill opened in 1981, making it the second-oldest restaurant in downtown. We recommend the fresh cut fries with a side of feta cheese dressing!
Jittery Joe's Coffee
For our coffee-lovers and coffee-drinkers - we recommend Jittery Joe's. Athens is their hometown and they've been roasting in small batches here for over 20 years!
