Rome
Rome is our favorite city in the world! We HIGHLY recommend visiting for at least a few days (you'll never be able to see the whole city in a day). Attractions in the city include the Colosseum, Vatican City, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, and Roman Forum. Every restaurant will exceed expectations, but if you want to visit Meghan and Chris's favorites, go to any of the following places: Pasta: 1) Trattoria Vecchia Roma, 2) Flavio al Velavevodetto, 3)Trattoria da Enzo Pizza: 1) Pizzeria Dar Poeta Gelato: 1) Frigidarium, 2) Gelateria La Romana (any of the several locations)
Florence & Tuscany
The wine region of Tuscany boasts the spectacular city of Florence as its capital, known for its art and architecture. Spend time visiting vineyards throughout the region or take the train to the capital and see "The David" sculpture and "The Birth of Venus" painting. Meghan and Chris have spent limited time here but expect it to be a stop during their wedding week! For the best view of the city (with the Duomo), go to Piazzale Michelangelo! Warning that it does require climbing quite a few steep steps if you are walking there (you could also take a taxi, bus, etc.)! If you want to try a Thompson Family Favorite restaurant, try: Ristorante Il Profeta Firenze! If interested in exploring Tuscany, the Thompson family also loves the Villa Dianella Winery and often has wine shipped from there to the US!
Cinque Terre
Cinque Terre (or "Five Lands" in English) is one of the most beautiful places in the world. Train or hike between the five cities and spend the day enjoying the most beautiful views of your life.
Amalfi Coast
The Amalfi Coast is known for its opulence and seaside views. Spend a few days here relaxing in luxury and eating tremendous food!
Assisi
Assisi is less than an hour from the wedding venue and is loaded with history! The hill town in central Italy was the birthplace of St. Francis, one of Italy’s patron saints. The Basilica of St. Francis is a massive, 2-level church, consecrated in 1253.
