Daytime temperatures are usually in the 70s or 80s. February is during the dry season so expect little or no rain! Can you say perfect?! <3
You can book through the resort's website (https://www.barcelo.com/en-us/occidental-at-xcaret-destination/) or through any third party site. We booked through Costco when we previously stayed at this resort and got an amazing deal when we combined our flight, hotel stay, and transportation. No matter how you book, we will work with the wedding coordinator to let them know you are there #ReadytoRohrer (aka here for the wedding).
You will fly into the Cancun airport. From there it is about an hour drive to the resort. We HIGHLY recommend booking your transportation to/from airport ahead of time! There are many shuttle companies that offer safe, air conditioned transportation to the resorts. You can usually book this when you are making your room reservations.
Feel free to arrive at the resort any day prior to the wedding. We would recommend at least 1-2 days prior so you can get settled. We will be arriving on Thursday the 17th. The days leading up to the wedding may be busy for us as we will likely have final planning to do once we are in Mexico. We plan to stay at The Occidental resort until Monday the 28th and then will take a short “honeymoon” at another resort before flying home. Stay as long as you would like! We want this to be an amazing vacation for you too!
We want everyone to enjoy their vacation and do the things that they would like to do while in beautiful Playa del Carmen! We do assume that people will want to spend time with the bride and groom. With so many people coming to celebrate and with so little time, we know this is going to be a challenge! We will try our best to spend quality time with everyone. We will plan some activities that we want to do like snorkeling, Xplor adventure park, visiting Tulum, etc for certain days so that people can plan to join us if they wish! We also plan to spend plenty of time relaxing by the pool or on the beach.
There are multiple different buildings spread out across the resort. The resort will attempt to put everyone attending the wedding in the same building if possible. (Unless you want more privacy and then please feel free to request that.)
Some people have voiced concerns about their safety when it comes to traveling to Mexico. We get it! There is a risk that comes with traveling anywhere. Luckily, the specific area we are traveling to is known to be safe. And luckily, your bride is an obsessive, over the top researcher/planner who takes safety seriously. For example on our last trip: every joint commissioned hospital, every embassy, etc was printed out in a folder in case of emergencies. We had emergency kits and more. For those who would still like some reassurance: We recommend scheduling transport to/from the airport for ease and safety. The resort we are staying at is very secure. There is gated entry with guards. You do not ever need to leave the resort. But if you wish to, all the excursions we took were with a reliable, safe company that provided safe transportation. We never once felt unsafe or uncomfortable during our trip. We have had friends stay at the same resort share the same great experience!
That everyone must dance to the Cupid Shuffle, Cha Cha Slide, and C’mon N’ Ride It (The Train) during the reception. This may be the only time she turns into bridezilla if she doesn’t see you on the dance floor.
Definitely. He just doesn’t know it yet.
Jessica’s sister Megan. Definitely Megan.
