Six floors of incredible exhibits and interactive displays. Could easily spend all day there, and if you're like Chelsea you'll spend most of it on the top floor at one of the most extensive dinosaur and fossil displays in the world.
Take the self guided tour of Dealey Plaza or visit one the museums that cover the Kennedy Assassination. There are several memorials in the area, plus the Sixth Floor Museum at the book depot that is currently open. As Chelsea or anyone who has visited us here in Texas know, I take everyone by to see, amazing to see in person if all you've seen is photos or have images in your head of what that day in American History looks like.
A legendary nieghborhood known for over 100 years for its live music and art scene, it was the heart of the Counter Culture Movement in Dallas in the sixties and is still a funky neighborhood full of some great restaurants, bars and unique shops. Deep Ellum is on the far east side of downtown close to Fair Park, the home of the Texas State Fair, Museum of Art, History, Public Gardens and many other cultural activities.
Where the West Begins. Its the Forth Worth City Motto and no where is it more clear than the Stock Yards. A cool little time capsule back to the late 1800's, there are plenty of bars and restaurants, some great new and old shops, a twice daily cattle drive featuring the legendary Texas Longhorns. There is also plenty of quality people watching, so either grab a fanny pack and some crocs, or some Justin Boots, add some starch to the blue jeans, and throw on a white Resistol Hat and you'll feel right at home. If you do make the trip, visit the White Elephant Saloon and have a TX Whiskey on ice for us, and if whiskey isn't your thing try the Banana Puddin Shot. I doubt he'll be there but this is the bar featured in Walker Texas Ranger, so look out for Chuck.
If you have some extra time and want to venture west, The Fort Worth Zoo is about 35-40 minutes west of Dallas. The zoo is consistently rated as the #1 zoo in America and with good reason. Wonderful layout, lots of great exhibits, its clean and very family friendly and affordable, its been a spot Chelsea and I have visited often. There is an attached water park for the kids and lots of great parks and restaurants in the neighborhood right around.
If you're coming to Texas with any expectations of what BBQ should taste like, this is what you're expecting. Heim is a Fort Worth BBQ Joint that just opened this location in Dallas. Its far and away my favorite that I've found. If you aren't at least trying the Bacon Burnt Ends or the Hatch Green Chile Mac n Cheese you're missing out, and if you have a little extra appetite and they have any left, the Spare Rib is the thing of legend. Warning, like all good BBQ places, when they run out they close, and they run out every day. If you're looking for a good runner up, Pecan Lodge in Deep Ellum (https://pecanlodge.com/) is known around the world and definitely gets more attention than Heim, and won't steer you wrong.
