This one’s just outside of Malibu, in a Pacific Palisades villa that dates back to 1974 when oil magnate J. Paul Getty opened a museum of his holdings. Today, there are roughly 1,200 artifacts on display at any one time, dated between 6,500 BC and 500 AD, and organized under such themes as “gods and goddesses” and “stories of the Trojan War.” Even if you’re not interested in the art, the palatial courtyards and manicured gardens are worth the visit alone.
3.0-mile loop trail near Malibu. Moderately challenging (takes about 1 hour and 34 min to complete) This is a popular trail so try and go early if you can! Incredible hike in the Santa Monica Mountains with epic views of the Pacific. Highlights include the oldest standing stone building in Malibu, a small waterfall and creek, and several ruins including ruins of a 1950's mansion. (On the app "All Trails" it is called the Solstice Canyon Loop -- there you will find directions and more info on the trail.

This striking 1929 Spanish-style building sits, along with the Malibu Lagoon Museum, inside the confines of Malibu Lagoon State Park. The major attraction at Adamson House is the array of decorative tiles manufactured at the once-celebrated but now-closed Malibu Tile Works. The guided tours allow visitors access to much of the property.
Great shops and places to eat.
Gardens of the World offers a tranquil botanical escape where a variety of internationally inspired gardens can be enjoyed on a tour or self-guided visit. In addition to the stunning Japanese, Italian, French, Mission, and English Perennial and Rose Gardens, the site hosts art exhibits, open-air concerts, and an annual summer jazz series.
More off the beaten path is Main street Santa Monica with tons of cute shops and places to eat and drink (Stella Barra has the best pizza!). Also check out Montana Ave if you have time! It is a few blocks from our house and our go-to area for brunch at Bardonna, Dinner at Bun & Mi, Courtyard Kitchen and Forma. They also have cute shops like Shop Divine vintage which has vintage clothes and jewlery as well as amazing natural and local wines.
If you want to be a bit touristy, go see the pier and walk down the 2nd street promenade! Some of our favorite places down there are Big Deans for drinks, Chez Jay for a bite, Go Greek for delicious frozen greek yogurt and Fig (in the Miramar Hotel) for a nicer dinner
