It all began with a simple question - “iPhone or Android?” They both remember that moment on May 8, 2017, when they got the match notification from Coffee Meets Bagel. Sahil was at home cooking dinner and Hitakshi was at a coffee shop. Sahil thumbed through her profile and was struck by her beauty and radiant smile, so he fired off that inane inquiry. Later that evening, he got the answer he expected - “iPhone”. Teed up, he replied with, “So I’ll never be more than a green bubble to you” It was enough to elicit a laugh and a sequence of rapid fire this-or-thats. “Chocolate or vanilla?”, “Halloween or Thanksgiving?”, “Hillary or Trump?”. Right off the bat, they discovered a theme of their relationship - they are far more different than alike. But it was these differences that brought them closer together and make them stronger as a team. On July 5th, 2017, Sahil took Hitakshi on a date along the westside of Manhattan. They strolled down the Highline, dined at Chelsea Market, and then ambled up to Penn Station. They sat on the grand steps of the James Farley Post Office, staring up at the big blue beacon of Madison Square Garden. On those steps, Sahil asked Hitakshi to be his girlfriend. Exactly two years later, Sahil planned an outing to some of Jersey’s vineyards. He capped off the anniversary with a picnic at Liberty State Park in Jersey City. Hitakshi could tell something was off because Sahil didn’t touch his food and kept looking at his phone. He insisted they sit near the park bathrooms rather than by the water. After the uneaten meal, Sahil finally took Hitakshi down to the Hudson River. As they approached a hill overlooking the Manhattan skyline, Hitakshi noticed a big wooden board with her name painted on it. She stopped in her tracks and felt butterflies rushing her stomach. Sahil led her up the hill, held her hands, and said a few words that went right through her ears. He asked her to flip over the board, got down on one knee, and the rest is history.
