We think it will be fun if everyone gets dressed up to party! Please wear something nice in whichever color makes you feel most radiant. Do you need a floor-length gown or a tux? No, but you can. Do you need to be able to groove? Yes, and you should. Should you feel like you’re lookin good? Always. TL;DR: Semi-formal attire.
While we can’t predict what the weather will be on our wedding day, San Diego typically showcases best in November. The city usually enjoys comfortably mild temperatures this time of year, with average highs in the mid-60s to low-70s. Temperatures drop after the sun goes down, especially so close to the ocean. The venue will have heat lamps and fire pits, but you shouldn't be too warm in long sleeves or a jacket since most of our reception will take place after sunset.
Parking is a little tricky at the venue and we would recommend Uber or Lyft if it’s possible for you. There is a small parking lot with a daily rate at the ground level of the venue for those staying at the La Jolla Cove Hotel and Suites, but unfortunately it is rather limited even for hotel guests, and if you’ve ever been to La Jolla, you know how lucky street parking can be. You can read more about La Jolla parking options, including parking structures, valet services, and reserved parking options under the "PARK" section of LaJollabytheSea.com. Please let us know if you have concerns about parking and we can chat through what will work best!
Because of the difficulty of parking at the venue (please see prior FAQ above), we encourage our guests to arrive between 3:15 and 3:30pm.
We celebrate families and love spending time with your little ones, but with the venue being on a rooftop with stairs and a railing (and an open bar), our wedding space isn’t particularly kid-friendly. To allow our guests, including parents, a night of relaxation and fun at the reception, our preference is adults only, but we understand if that is a difficult accommodation. Please consider joining us with your kiddos the day following our wedding instead, where we’ll have some fun by the pool of the La Jolla Cove Hotel and Suites :)
Yes, PLEASE let us know about your allergies in advance. There will be different food choices available and we will make sure there are lactose-, gluten-, and meat-free options, but please let us know ahead of time of any food intolerances so that we can ensure you won’t be hungry.
Our wedding block is at the Inn by the Sea La Jolla, which offers a more cost-effective option than our wedding venue hotel. The Inn by the Sea is only 2.5 blocks to the ocean, a 9-minute walk to our wedding venue, and within walking distance to many restaurants, museums, and shops. Rooms are discounted for the entire length of your stay (up to 1 week) at the following rates: - Standard Rooms: $179/night + tax - Ocean View Rooms: $269/night + tax These rates cannot be accessed online, so you'll need to call to make your reservation at (800) 526-4545 and reference the Newman/Hanke Wedding in order to receive the discounted rate. This block will be secured through October 1, 2024 and rooms with a view of the ocean book out quickly, so please book as soon as possible if you wish to stay at the Inn by the Sea!
Yes! The wedding will be on the rooftop of the La Jolla Cove Hotel & Suites so this will of course be the closest place to stay the night of our wedding. As noted above, there is a hotel block at the nearby Inn by the Sea La Jolla, and we included other nearby recommendations on the “Travel” webpage of this website for your reference along with a link to discounted hotel rates.
Of course! We planned for all unmarried/unpartnered guests to bring someone that would make the night even better - please let us know whether you will be bringing a plus one and the name of who will be joining you so that we can make sure that you will be sitting together.
We kindly ask that you RSVP by October 12, 2024. Our invitations include a postcard that you can either scan or stamp and send via USPS in order to RSVP. Please click the "RSVP" page of this website to do so now!
