A trip Jamie and I never miss when we stay at Snowriver is the Black Harbor Parkway. The drive features a scenic view of the Ottawa National Forest, four trailheads to five gorgeous waterfalls, and a pedestrian suspension bridge that leads to a secluded beach on Lake Superior. Even in the Fall you can enjoy short or long hikes, kayaking, rock picking, and bon fires on the beach!
Take the hike we got engaged on! Located on the western edge of the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park, the Presque Isle River is home to three beautiful waterfalls—Manabezho, Manido and Nawadaha—all easily accessible from a nearby parking area. Take the trail down a set of steps to the falls, where you can find a viewing platform.
The western part of the Upper Peninsula features many ATV trails to explore. Bring your own or explore rental options.
Ironwood is surrounded by some of the best fishing locations in the Midwest. Take a charter and fish the depths of Lake Superior. Bring your boat and fish Lake Gogebic, the largest inland lake in Michigan. Take an adventure and fish the Sylvania Wilderness or the Porcupine Mountains. Challenge yourself and fish the many rivers and streams that cut through ancient forests like the Black River or the Presque Isle River. There is something for every fisherman.
The course offers 18 scenic holes of golf. With some wide-open holes, some narrow holes, and a little bit of everything else in between, you'll be sure to have a fun round of golf.
After an 800-foot chair lift ride to the crest of the hill -- a 360-foot copper-bearing volcanic outcrop -- visitors take a thrilling 18-story elevator to the main observation deck. From there, the truly fearless can walk an additional 8 stories to the top starting gate. Once at the top, visitors can enjoy the highest, most awe-inspiring, unobstructed vista in the Midwest overlooking over 2500 square miles, 3 states and even Canada on a clear day.
A spot we never miss, Iron Nugget has some of the best food near the resort!
