Our Story

How We Met

We met at the University of Minnesota over a decade ago. Despite not having overlapping academic pursuits or classes, we were both active in Greek Life. Our paths crossed for the first time in 2008 at Sigma Alpha Epsilon (Clint's Fraternity) but we didn't start hanging out until a few years later. Fast forward to 2010, we found ourselves hanging out much more often as our friend groups converged and got to know each other better. After a while, it was clear there was some flirtations, as noted by Clint's frequent bar serenades which included Peter Frampton's "Baby, I Love Your Way", but the timing was off. Lauren was headed to Paris in the Spring for a semester abroad. Fortunately, there was one last event of the semester, which was the unofficial beginning of it all. The Kappa formal was supposed to be somewhere downtown but had been canceled last minute due to a blizzard. Even with 10 inches of snow and -10 degree windchill, the Kappas were determined to host the formal - relocating to a house on campus. After a shaky start to the evening, Lauren was unsure if Clint would make it but was hoping to see him one last time before she left. After not too long, Clint and some of the other dates showed up, undeterred by the weather, and Lauren and Clint ended up dancing the night away. Unbeknownst to Clint, Chris Miller (the best man), who I am not sure remembers this had made a fateful interjection that night confirming Clint's interest in Lauren. Just a few weeks later, Lauren headed to Europe. We weren't sure what the semester would have in store, but nevertheless, Clint was the last person Lauren spoke to before her flight took off, and he never left her mind the entire time while she was there. Clint asked Lauren on a first date immediately upon her return in June, and we officially began dating shortly after. Our twenties were packed with LOTS of fun and travel as well as some bigger life changes, including career transitions, law school, the bar exam, and numerous moves. Our relationship has never wavered and we feel so lucky to experience life together. This Fall, we will celebrate our 12-year anniversary (!!) and are looking forward to starting this next chapter as newlyweds. After all this time, Clint is still the last person Lauren calls before getting on a flight, and the first person she looks forward to seeing when she comes home.
