How to Get to Bar Harbor

While MDI is a trek, we promise it will be worth it! If you’re not driving from a neighboring state, we recommend flying into Bangor International Airport (BGR) and renting a car for the weekend OR flying into Hancock County Bar Harbor Airport and taking the free shuttle to Bar Harbor. Renting a car will allow you to explore Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park during your stay, however you should group together with 4-5 others to share a car for the weekend. Fly to Hancock County Bar Harbor Airport (BHB) and take the free shuttle to your hotel (~20 minute drive to Bar Harbor). This is a great option, but you will need to layover in Boston. Fly to Bangor Airport (BGR) and rent a car (~1 hour drive to Bar Harbor) Fly to Portland Airport (PWM) and rent a car (~3 hour drive to Bar Harbor) Fly to Boston (BOS) and rent a car (~ 5 hour drive to Bar Harbor) The drive from NYC to Bar Harbor is beautiful and takes ~8 hours. Should you choose this option, we recommend taking the day and stopping in Portland Maine for lunch!
